Digibox needed for Sky dish?
Just moved into a rented house and there's a Sky dish on the wall. But just the ends of the leads poking into the house. Now, I've never had Sky, and don't want it now, so is there any way to use the dish to get non-Sky channels?
From what I've gleaned I need a digibox of some sort to connect the dish to the TV. Anyone any idea what the cheapest option is?

You can get Freesat from Sky Home - FREESAT from Sky If you don't need the digibox (or can get a cheaper version than Sky's own) you can just buy the Freesat card which costs £20. Have a look in the Freesat F&Qs for more info

You could go for Freesat (the new BBC/ITV service), or the almost deliberately confusing competitive service, FreesatFromSky. There are hundreds of old Sky boxes on Ebay which would receive the latter, and for most of the free channels you don't even need the £20 viewing card - just plug in the box and it'll work fine. That's what I do.

only problem with the sky one though is that it lists every channel. Nothing more irratating when you select something and it gives the screen telling you to upgrade your subscription

My Sky box is connected through a TiVo, which controls it. I just add the channels I actually receive to the TiVo list, and it never tries to select any other channels. Plus I can skip the ads and never have to worry about when a programme is actually being broadcast or on what channel
