Default AVP requiem

Finally got round to watching this last night,

now i,m not so sure?

what promised to be a new burst of life for the franchise, was imho sadly lacking

It had all the standard movie cliches, (sp) but occasionally turned it around.

The script could have been taken from teen horror movie 101,

bring back SW, at least 3 of her four outings were passable

IMO, all the Aliens were good but then I'm a proper Fanboi.

Even Resurrection was good because it wasn't 100% serious. How no one noticed that Joss Whedon ripped nearly the entire story from a comic released in the early 90s.

Alien3 was cut very poorly (the later released "radio edit" I had seen in school as a mate of a mate worked on the set - you could tell they captured the Alien as the blast doors are open in one shot, closed in another yet the first release the capture fails) and was never going to compete with Michelle Pfipferferfer in a cat suit. It was the directors first full length film - he went on to direct 7seven, Fight Club, Panic Room which are all pretty good films.

AVP as with all comic/game film cross overs has been handled quite badly. AVP1 again being ripped up from an old comic story (even down to marking the human female by her new best buddy Pred)

Weaver and Ridley Scott talked considerably about a "re-load" of the Alien franchise but AVP:Req pretty much put an end to that idea.

The problem is money. Teen slasher films make more money than 18+ films with even the slightest amount of "grit".

Oh, and just for those Alien fans, has anyone ever seen this?

It was left out both Aliens versions.

Sorry Ed, you get me there, its Ripley & Burke, thats the best i can do...

as an aside, do you think A2 would have gone down better if it had been

released in its directors cut originally?

I think they need to back to square one and watch some classic 70's horror flicks to get some inspiration, that and stop using so much cad and go back to using puppets.

The original alien still scares the crap out of me, it's the suspense that is lacking in these films.

Ripley finds Burke in the processing plant. He's still alive and she hands him a grenade. Sort of a settling of issues between them. This is the only pic of that scene.

I think A2 couldn't have done any better than it did. There were rumours it cost far more than they let on. I think its the highest grossing horror movie ever.

There are a couple of excellent looking PC games coming shortly.

Colonial Marines

Squad based hopefully-not-**** FPS.

I'd give it 4.5/10, was hyped up to see it, but on the day it dissappointed tbh

Good: Alot more action than, and seeing the infamous Predalien
Bad: Plot let it down

I enjoyed it but cared more about the Predator and Alien than the cast, in fact more of the cast that got killed, the better

I enjoyed all the Alien Films, (again another fanboy) and recently saw the alternate version of Alien 3 with the Ox at the beginning, ive also read the William Gibson script for Alien 3 and felt it a better storyline

I enjoyed Resurrection too as it became a bit tongue in cheek

There are a few script on the web that explain how the scene would have worked.
Why they left some of the cuts out i will never know...

Funnily enough being a complete Alien freak I have never seen AVP R, I really don't know if I would enjoy it...and I want to.
