if it's already been done in your road, check your local authority web sitre for the planning section. take a look at the records for the relevant property and use that for ideas...copies of theirplans should be online if the work or the approvals are relatively recent
quickest way to havre plans which you can easily amend is by hand drawing and then keeping the original, making any alterations on a photocopy....unless you already know how to use a cad type program and can therefore avoid the associated learning curve
hth!

thanks richard..
I have drawn up a diagram of the Ground floor as it is and another another one for the small changes i would like..that i can think of.
Will check the local authorities site now for some example plans..
The aim was to make it look nice and livable as we will be living here for the near 1-2 years.
I have just tried to draw it into Googe Sketchup..but have totallly given up..! anyone here a Sketchup Guru?

i'd stick with hand-drawn if i were you. a friend of mine started off that way and got so into it that he went out and bought a basic CAD system, then completed a 3 dimensional survey of his house and inpout the whole thing before starting new drawings for a planning application.
he has a very impressive "exploded" perspective of his house as was and will soon have another "as is"
bit excessive i thought, but doesn;t do anything by halves!
