Default A week in the UK

Weather = Mostly bad (can't expect much at the time of year).
Service = Mostly bad (some excellent but most below par).
Food = Pretty good.
Booze = Expensive.
Hotels = Expensive for what you get (but good enough).
Smiles on the locals = Non existent.
British Airways (Club World), I'm surprised to say = Excellent
Terminal 5 = Very good and got my bag on the flight (avoided a hat-trick of failure for BA)

Cheer up FFS, smile a bit, it's not all bad At least the food and BA are OK!

I'm always smiling. As you can see by my FB pic!

As for the supermarkets..........they can't keep up........if it's a miserable day, the heating is still off from the previous day when it was sunny. Then they turn on the air con full blast..........next day it's cooler so we all freeze!

I thought Terminal 5 was brilliant when I came through there last month. Best baggage service I have ever had. By the time I got off the plane and into the baggage reclaim my bag was ready. Trains to Central London were excellent. Dunno about you coolangatta but I stayed in a 5-star hotel in Central London and it was very nice indeed...then had a Pizza Hut lunch as some things you just miss when you are an ex-pat and PH pizzas are one of them (believe it or not!).

No Pizza Hut for me. Full English breakfast (with HP sauce) was all I needed to believe I was 'home'.

Oh yes! I had a load of that too! We upgraded to Full English breakfast so had the continental one first and then had the full english. My partner is a vegetarian but she ordered a full english as well so I had hers...talk about filling your boots! Lasted me a fair whack of the day that did!

The weather is part and parcel of living here. If you don't like it then tough. Tramping up a Welsh mountain side in the pissing rain is character building Get plenty of smiles and friendly conversations from locals and tourists in this type of environment

We have some of the best food / chefs / restaurants in the world (though the French may argue to the contrary). I think it's great, such a diversity of choice from a simple pie and chips down the pub to a full gastronomic experience, it's all good.

Booze might be expensive but we've got some of the best beer in the world. Talking about real ale here not that gassy, chemically enhanced, cr*p that passes for lager in this country. Only Belgium comes close in the beer stakes.

So pretty much sums up for me why I love it here so much, going for a long walk in our amazing countryside in some occasionally challenging weather, returning to a nice warm pub with a blazing log fire for a hearty feast washed down with a few pints of the finest ale money can buy. Perhaps I'm not normal

Haven't found anywhere else in the world that compares yet and I've done a fair bit of travelling.

Well if you're not then neither am I because those are just a few of the reasons that I love it here too

Hey! I wasn't knocking the UK, I gave it an overall It is, after all, my homeland.
Beer is a + point for sure, however there are many good beers world wide, we (UK) do not have a monopoly.
Weather is pretty dire, too much rain and not much differential between the seasons. I get proper summer and real winter here
Main prob in the UK is the lack of smiles You'd think there was a financial meltdown or something

**** me when I was in Osaka the beer was a flipping fortune, about 4 times what I pay at home!

Japan and its people are fantastic IMHO

Only downside for me was the heat/humidity and the tiny hotel room!

It's a cultural thing, smile, talk or look at someone for more than a milisecond on the tube and you're either a wierdo or a target for a stabbing

I'll give you a smile for flying BA though - pays my wages

What, you can get 4 cans of Skol for less than 90p like we can here in ASDA?
