Default Trying to upgrade mobile contract with Orange !

Been on the phone to Orange a while ago trying to upgrade my contract which ran out a while ago.

I'm not sure what is the best phone to get at the moment but I was looking at either the Samsung Omnia or Nokia N96. Orange have just told me they haven't had any Omnia's in stock for ages and won't be getting any for a while and they want £400 off me to upgrade to the N96

I told them that Vodafone are doing the N96 free with 900 minutes/unlimited texts for £40 a month and they told me I would be better off going there as they can't do any deals to match that

I've been with Orange about 4 years and until now when upgrading they have been really good but their attitude is making me want to go elsewhere.

What are some of the best phones out at the moment ?

Anyone know what the Samsung Omnia is like as I quite like the look of that ?

You can buy the n96 sim free from expansys for £440 If your company is messing you around move on. The n96 can be had for free on £35 contracts why should you not get the same deal as someone new to the provider ?

If yoy can wait there is some excellent phones due out in the next month or so. My contract ended in august but I'm waiting for the HTC touch HD or possible one of the other good phones due out

Buy a HTC Touch HD (UK, English, GPS), #99HHC014-00_eXp - eXpansys UK

I'm definately looking at going elsewhere now. Orange advertise that existing customers get the same deals as new customers but that's not true. I looked on the Orange website as a new customer, then logged into my account and looked at the same phones and they cost more

I can't believe they want £400 off me to upgrade to a phone that costs pretty much the same to buy outright !

Well i'm paying £30 a month for 200mins/500 texts with a Samsung E900,that's alot these days. Had that for over 18 months.

I have spoken to them a couple of times about upgrading and their attitude is pretty bad compared to what it has been in the past.

I have stayed with my provider even though I haven't had a new phone because they swapped me onto a no contract sim only tariff till a phone I like comes out £20 a month gets me 600 minutes, 1000 texts andf unlimited internet I'm still unsure if I want to be tied into a contract now or just keep buying phones as I fancy.

Maybe

The fact is they still advertise that existing customers get the same deals as new customers, they don't say you have to spend xx amount per month otherwise we can't be bothered with you !!

I upgraded my phone with Orange in June. I had been paying £30 per month for 200 mins and 500 texts. Wanted them to match a deal I'd seen through a 3rd party company of £30 for 600 mins and 3,000 texts plus a free phone.

The said they could match that deal, and give me the phone I was asking for (N82 black). But it got better, they were giving a £5 per month discount at the time so they gave me that too!

So they gave me 600 mins, unlimited texts and a free Nokia N82 Black with free delivery and I pay them £25 per month

I'm sure they made a mistake with the extra fiver discount, but I'm not going to tell them!

At the same time I got my wife a Samsung Soul on an Orange contract, 400 mins and 500 texts from through 3rd party company. Should have been £30 per month for 18 months, but they had a deal with automatic £125 cash back direct into her account after 90days. No bills to send in or anything. And the cash went into her account after 90 days as she has checked. So thats the equivalent of just £23.05 per month on the 18 month contract. Orange couldn't do the same deal, but a 3rd party company selling for Orange could?

15 yr old daughter is now on the £15 contract with 100 mins plus unlimited texts. Works out well as her mates are all on different networks and they txt each other mainly. Before she was putting 20 to 30 quid on PAYG, now its 15 quid and she got a new phone (SE 910i I think)

wagrain, sounds like the family has a good deal as we all know who will be footing all the bills I'm not suprised your daughter likes her new contract. My mate tried that for his daughter and one bill went to £125 You do realise you can't trust teenagers on your contract phone

Oh I know that!!!

She did have a massive first bill but had words with her. She took it on board and gave me her word it wouldn't happen again.

In the post this morning was her latest bill . . . . £15.90
The 90 pence over spend I was expecting as she had sent some texts to her Dutch friends which I knew would be extra (she even asked permission first!)

So I'm happier now

The only thing we're not happy with is the wifes Samsung Soul...It's rubbish.
Looks and feels really good, but when it comes to using it, its a sticking pile of poo!

I've a brand new Nokia 6500 classic still sat in its box in my office, but she doesn't like the key pad on it.

Another thing that's annoyed me is Orange told me I can't have a Samsung Omnia as they haven't got any in stock and don't look likely to get any in the near future. Spoke to a shop today who can get me a Samsung Omnia on Orange,so how can they can do it then if Orange reckon they haven't got any ??

Just phoned Orange and was going to cancel by contract(well, not renew it) as they can't give me the phone I wanted. I've been trying to get a Samsung Omnia but the woman on the phone said it's being discontinued because of software issues with it ! Anyone know anything about this ?

To try and keep me as a customer they have offered me the following phones with 200 mins/unlimited texts for £15 a month:

Samsung U800 or G600. Sony Ericson W595 or W910i. Nokia 6500 slide or LG Secret.

I quite like the look of the Nokia 6500 slide, anyone know what it's like ?

But they are crappy old phones, Vodafone are doing the omnia for free on 12 months contract for £35 with cash back You have to purchase it thru quidico to get £150 cash back. I think it works out about £22.50 a month

Samsung Omnia - Pay Monthly Mobile Phone - Vodafone

That seems good but is there any truth in the software issues with the Omnia ?

my contract is about £17.50 a month

because i dont get suckered into the "must upgradez" way of thinking

i dont want to "upgraded" because i will get sucked out of my current million year old contract and know for a fact that when the 12 months is up, i will get the "ohh you cant go back to your old contract" crap

that is what orange did to me about 10 years ago.

i have recently changed my old moto v3 rzr (original one!) because it finally gave up the ghost and broke.

lucky for me the missus had an old v3i in a drawer with a smashed screen, so i bought a new housing kit, the little torx screw driver and refurbished it myself

also reflashed it with some mp3 bootleg firmware, and it now has itunes on it

cost me £8 for the housing kit and because its all new parts, it looks like a brand new phone

if i go to the tmobile website and login they tell me i can either have a "free upgrade" to a newer phone, but have to sign a new 12 month contract

or i can have a £5/month reduction in my contract price, but sign up to a new 12 month contract

they blatantly want me off this current contract anyway they can IMO

and i am not going to move

I desperately want to get off my current contract with Orange as i've only got 200 mins 500 texts for £30 a month and that's with £5 a month discount !!

All I want is a decent phone for a reasonable monthly price !!

My contract with Orange is due now but i'm waiting for the Sony Ericsson C905 which is supposed to be out on the 20th of this month, but I imagine it will be a bit longer before Orange have it available.

I was on 400 mins and 200 text last year for £25. Ive already been promised 600mins and unlimited texts this year for the same money and I was going to push em' a bit more for some inclusive internet time.

If you can show them an equivalent deal from one of the main suppliers they generally match it + if you've been with them for 4 years you should get some loyalty discount as well.

I told them that Vodafone have the Nokia N96 free for £35 a month and they told me to go with Vodafone then !!

I seem to be going round in circles at the moment,i've never had this trouble trying to get a new phone before !

Anyone know what the Nokia N96 is like then ? That's the phone I was after initially until I saw the Omnia and thought it looked better but now i've heard all these stories about software issues I don't think I want one !

Supposedly the N85 is the same as the 96, but with less issues and a couple better items. Thats not out yet though and i doubt Orange will get it.

I've been with Orange for years, but have always struggled to get the same deal as a new customer. This year, i reckon i'll be moving network if possible.

For £40 a month in a 2 year contract, you can get the 96 for free with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet and email. As i'm already paying £35 a month with Orange and fully expect to pay extra for the 96 for an upgrade(if i can even get it as an upgrade), i figure i'd be better off on a another network.
