Just ordered Sky HD,cheap at the mo!
Hi, i've just ordered Sky HD,direct with Sky,£75 for the box,£30 installation!
They say it's a till the end of October deal, im really looking forward to it!
I had to pay £10 a month for the HD mix.
What are your veiws on Sky HD? They say 22 channels available at the mo,do you think this will increase much soon?
Does the normal non HD channels improve with the hdmi cable output?
Thanks,Mit

Looking forward to killing my SKY HD PVR off soon - once a decent Freeview HD/Freesat HD is up and running. That will be soooon!!! That will teach the Aussie tw@t to charge £10 a month for HD signals they they pay no more to those that originate the programmes for.

Phil, is this the 'failed' recordings that aren't even supossed to have happened yet syndrome? Nightmare and kills series link. Think it is an overnight updated software bug that the tw@ts get then get you pointlessly unplugging LNB cables for etc whilst moaning up on premium rates. Hope to ditch the lot of them soon for Freesat/Freeview HD.

What channels do you mean? What progs?
In fact the truth is that stuff originated in 'HD' and edited in 'HD' and transmitted in 'HD' is often done on £5k cameras with £2k lenses. 'Old' SD 'broadcast quality' far less compressed cameras cost 6 times as much... Progresss?
For HD to look good you need a well handled £30k camera with a £20k lens and perfection along the post production chain with no F'ups in media handling (as I was fixing for a client today!!!!). D

it is a really good service, if you use it. There aint that many 'good' programmes actually on HD at the mo, sky sports costs an extra £19 with HD which in my opinion is a bloody rip off.
I ve had it a year now and will becancelling the HD service soon as i dont think its worth the money yet, one of the things that really grates me is that you cant move the channels around i:e normal channel 4 for HD4.
The picture does improve as the HDMI cable is a better way of connecting, also you have more room on your Sky+.
Good but you need to use it, also its what you have paid all that money for on a new tele isnt it

You are right mate, and the irony is that it used to be included in the BBC TV licence before SKY outbid them so mugs that subscribe to SKY now actually pay twice... Ahh capitalism...

I'm getting it installed on Thursday as I want to break it before next years F1 is broadcast in HD by the BBC. That way I should have a reliable box in time.
Plus I'll complain like **** to get some money refunded

Humax FOXSAT-HDR Freesat HD PVR Receiver | Freesat+ | Satbuyer
ETA november 2008 at approx £299, good thing is you get more than the freesat channels as well as you can change something in the settings to get addition channels

Now that is the business I will find the actually working (unlike SKY afaik) USB and ethernet connections very handy. I wont do 'series link' though will it (yet)?
Wonder how much I'll get for the SKY HD box on e bay?

Hopefully though the price will be quite a bit less than the £299. I wonder if sky's reduction in price for hd had anything to do with the anouncement of the freesat hd pvr

About £150 when i looked last.
Was going to buy the HD box for £150, sell my + box for £75 and then just ring them and change the card over to the HD box. As its £75 now, may as well get a new box and have a warranty.
When we changed to + the guy left the old box so we put that in our bedroom. Hopefully, if I get HD the chap will leave the + box.

MASSIVE improvement on SD channels via HDMI. Biggest selling point of the SKY HD box for me Cant think of the last time I actually watched a HD channel/prog on it. Absurd really...

Freesat is a joke!
Maybe Sky does not pay anymore to the program makers, but do you think it really cost them nothing to set up and distribute the HD service? That's rahter naive to say the least! OK, you can argue that £10 may or may not be good value for money, but compared to some of Skys' offerings now they have 20+ channels, it would appear to be very good value for money in Sky terms!
Free HD telly (like most telly) is a pipe dream. Too many channels seeking too few advertisers means that free tv, in the main is a thing of the past.

freesat dont forget though is still a very new service. Within a few years there will be a heck of a lot more content. Sky in my eyes is going to move to hd only within a few years as well. they have seen their @rse and thats why they have done the price drop on the hd boxes imo. Even though there isnt a load of content yet on the freesat, the fact the hd boxes upscale anyway will still give a better picture
