I use them for both gas and electric. Went to the town centre earlier to buy some electric and do other bits too. I bought £15 worth which lasts a week. Got home put my key token into the machine, it accepted it and showed me a balance of £30.35. Nothing weird there you say, but the balance before was £2.35

So £2.35 + £15.00 = £17.35. Eh?

Checked the paypoint reciept too and it said £15.00 was paid for.

Are British Gas giving freebies out or what? I'm soon to be leaving them for Southern Electric - is this an enticer to stay

Im must be a pikey chav then.

When I bought my house it was fitted with one of these. Phoned up Scottish Power to have it changed over, there replay was since im a single parent with two kids they cant change me over. Tried British Gas and Scottish Hydro they also come back with the same bull.

Piece of **** to bypass a meter. Best to put it back into the loop on occasion though so they don't get suspicious about the lack of electricity getting used

If you're really good you can do it without breaking the seal on the main fuse but there is a bit of a risk of blowing yourself up when you do this

I had this in my flat when I first bought it, to be fair it was the first thing I changed.

I hated the feeling of worrying if the electricity was going to run out whilst I was watching TV or something stupid.

DD is the way forward, couldnt stand the thing.

a couple of years ago we had to investigate why one of the local gypo camps had 'unusual levels of electricity comsumption' there was about 20 pitches and the whole site was using about £10 worth of juice a week (coucil meters electricity supplier refused to fit their own meters).they had all apart from one bypassed the meter.we caught two with links still fitted,word spread like lightening pikeys sprinting to their meters.link wires all over the place.its dead easyto bypass get the right size cable and you dont even have to break the seals just ram them in.

LOL had pay as you go meters in a flat a rented years ago - what a pain in the **** they where ! Felt a right pratt when queueing up to buy tokens then got told could not buy that many tokens in one go !

Why does everyone say direct debit is best ?
I get them to send me a bill - its normally an estimated one and its nomally out in my favour. Give them a reading and send a new bill and an extra 30 days to pay it thaks !
If I was on DD they would just take the money and I would be paying too much and be massively in credit with "x" supplier of gas or electricity - which I dont want to be !

So you go into debt a little further every time, doesn't make much sense to me. Your meter will be read at some point.

As for why the DD, I just feel more comfortable at home, knowing that when I turn the light switch, the light will come on. Dont like the feeling of having to check to see how much is left to use.

Can I ask what others are paying for electric currently then. It's costing me about £15 a week in tokens, and I have thought of swapping to the other format. Don't fancy 3 month bills but a D/D could be ok if it wasn't set higher than what I pay now. My reasoning with P/P is I know what I'm using - but it seems I'm paying more for what I get when I should be saving basically on the other format.

lmao, im on a prepaid meter for my gas, despite whats claimed its not that much more than a direct debit when you actualy work it out and sit down to.

problem with my house is its crap at holding in heat, even witht eh heating cranked up burning £7 of gas a day it still wont stay warm.


although land lord is due to fit loft insulation tomorow.

bets bet give the company a ring and check, may get away with it but then you may not and might have bad affects.
