I remember being scared out my wits when I first rode it

Now it just seems tame! Last I went to AT (earlier this year) it was just about the only ride with no queue whatsoever. I did comment that it'd probably be going soon as it was taking valuable space.

Shame though, as it was a groundbreaker when first opened

First rollercoaster I recall ever going on and loved it. I can remember the long queue to get in, stood there with my dad

I remember having ear ache for a week after I went on that ride. The padding around your head had gone rock solid. So everytime you changed direction, it was like hitting a brick wall at 30mph with the side of your face!

Terrible ride.

Took my son on it a few times last week even splashed out for a photo as it's to be dismantled. Great ride but past its best now.

Black Hole went in 2006, don't remember an Alpine Run though?

All details here Alton Towers (Alton, Staffordshire ST10 4DB UK)

Think they should replace it with one of these

Sad to see the corkscrew go. I remember fondly, as a young kid, wanting to go to AT to go on it, but never did manage it until I was a lot older (at least 28 ). It will be interesting to see what is put in it's place. I wonder where, if anywhere it'll go, as most rides seem to move from park to park, but I guess at 28, it's getting a little too old.

Probably be sold to some park in the developing world, that's where the black hole was going assuming the deal went through.
