Happy hours and cheap alcohol should be banned, say MPs - Telegraph
It's just the way Britain is now.Kids who can't face growing up and stressed out adults as far as I can see.
24 hour drinking plan didn't work then
MP's,they do make me smile

Its been like that for years, if anything my grandads and my dad were alot worse than the current generation for drinking heavily all the time. Kids have always grown up getting drunk in the parks etc

cheap booze in supermarkets? Since when? Wine is up from about £4.50 a bottle to £6 for something drinkable and the bottled beers have maintained the same price but now the bottles are smaller or there are less bottles per box.

It isn't the price.
Self control is. I can go out and have a few drinks. Other people I know can't go out without getting hammered.
Those who go out to get completely hammered always will. Same as drink driving. Zero tollerance won't stop persistant heavy drinkers driving home.

They know it wont do anything, booze is cheaper abroad and yet other countries dont have the problem we have.
But it is a good ruse to put up tax.Like petrols bad for the environment so we are going to tax till it hurts or stop bad behaviour

Here's a quote from the above report in the Telegragh.
"The report cited research that found 45 per cent of victims of violence described their assailant as being under the influence of alcohol".
All that would suggest to me, is the majority of violent assailants (55%) have not been drinking alcohol.

As per usual the Daily Mash cuts to the chase ... ALCOHOL TO BE RESTRICTED TO NICE PEOPLE WITH DEGREES - The Daily Mash
The last paragraph sums up the whole government thing ..
" .. Tom Logan, a trainee accountant from Peterborough, said: "So what you're saying is, they've ****ed up the economy, forced the country to the point of bankruptcy and put my job and my home in jeopardy while at the same time paying themselves a hundred grand a year in expenses and are now telling me I shouldn't be allowed to buy a couple of cheap bottles of wine on a Friday night so I can forget my troubles for a few hours instead of hunting them down and roasting them on a spit like the ****-caked, trough-guzzling pigs that they are?
"Interesting." ... ".

The prices would have no effect on the anount of binge drinking. It is probably a bit of serious education that is needed when people are younger to let them know the real effects of excess alcohol and what a desperate situation it is to become an alcoholic.
It is also unfair that others have to pay more because of the actions of the minority.

They dont want to stop people drinking, just like they dont want to stop people smoking, its the tax they like and binge drinking for booze is like the cancer for smokers, they dont actually want to put it up so it stops, they try to get the middle ground where its not so expensive as to stop us all from buying just as much, but as expensive as they can make it with tax

This isn't a new thing parents should be made responsible for their boozed up offspring and the little mites hauled home.
