Ive been talking with a few friends and we want to go to Coed-y-Brenin and ride a couple of the trails up there, the problem is no one in our group has been there before and we dont know quite what the trails are like.......

so.....who's been, whats it like ?

Any other bits of advice etc would come in dead handy too.....cheers

I've ridden the patch (grew up 6 miles away). Amazing world class location.

What you looking for ? Bit of general XC? Might wait till spring though unless you are VERY gnarly .

It'll be in the early new years sometime.

Thinking about the Dragons back one day and then Temtiwr or MBR the next.

Dont mean to sound rude and ungrateful, but did you actually read anything in those two links you put up ?? neither of them actually contain anything about the trails (only the name in the link title)

if you're staying for a couple of days i'd recommend one day there then up the a470 to Betws y Coed and have a go at the Marin Trail

Bring something nice, the 470 is a legendary road

It's a good ride, I've done the long Beast route. "Big Dug" is ace singletrack. There's a reasonable amount of rock used to amour the trail up, can feel a bit "slabby" in places. The forest cafe part way round is an essential visit to fuel up. Have read recently that the visitor centre cafe has been running odd opening hours. Secure your bikes if you leave them unattended at the VC - one of the guys I ride with had a bike nicked from a roof rack/bars (which were locked).

Personally I prefer Nant-yr-Arian and the Conti' route. Excellent man-made singletrack in the forest but then middle moorland section gives the ride a real wilderness feel.

If you're going through Betws-y-Coed, you have the choice of the Marin or Penmachno. Neither has either facilities but are good. Some folks reckon the Marin is too much fireroad but the singletrack is fun. Penmachno is good, especially since the 2nd loop opened. Can be hard work to ride into the "bowl" if you've got a killer headwind, it's quite exposed and feels like riding in quick sand.

It's good fun but it gets awfully wet.

Like Chris, I prefer Nant-yr-Arian and also Coed-Llandegla.

Good luck Matt

No money for teams in next years Microsoft Challenge for me, the cupboard is bare according to our CEO. Maybe asking him for £100k in the middle of a recession wasn't such a bright idea...

Will only be going to C-y-B as that is where the other party members want to go.

As I said earlier, we have picked out the Dragon's Back for day one and then one of the red routes for day two.

We all ride XC and have hardtails, these should cope shouldnt they ?
