Default How much do you spend a month on Gas & Electric?

Don't normally notice things like this but i'm off work because my son is sick and the gas and Electric bill has just come through for the last 6 months.

4 bedroom house with three people living in it:

Per month
Gas: £55
Electric: £105

So £160 a month through the summer.

I have just tried USwitch but the only ones that are cheaper is Npower and eon. Is this a normal amount to use anyone else know what they are paying.

We are due them £800 because our DD payments have been set to £55 for our electic bill.

we pay £40 for gas and £60 or £65 for electricity, this is for a 4 bed house with 3 people as well with EDF

We are currently in credit for the gas as well, however over the next 9 months (winter ) it will even itself out.

Gas - £0
Oil -£600 every 8-10 months (at current prices!)
Electric - about £40 a month.
Logs - about £45 a year.

Jer - that is a HUGE amount on electricity.

Although quite well insulated, this house is a 5 bed with big airy rooms. Plus we have a baby so the washing machine and tumble dryer are on almost constantly!

We lived in a nice apartment (2 bed, 6th floor corner riverside flat in the Docklands - Anchorage Point - the development on the right) for over a year. All electric so were bricking ourselves about the bill.

Came to move out, read the meter and phoned the supplier. The meter was faulty so we paid NOTHING!! We must have saved about £1500 at least! Result!!

2 bedroom flat, about 45-50 for gas, same for leccy, with BG.

The won't do a homcare agreement type thing though because
my boiler position doesn't meet their H&S requirements,
having to go to the dizzying heights of 1 step up a small stepladder
is perilous, I know

£86 pm elec
£66 pm gas

Last bill we had in think they owed us about £30 elec but we owed the about £70 in gas

I think its scandelous but i have to remember that only 2 days a week there is nobody in the house in the day, and i am one for being indoors with shorts on and heating on rather than wearing jeans and jumper with the heating off

12 months to August 2008, I paid £44pm for G&E combined (Actually £54pm paid, but ended up £120 in credit...just remembered I later got a £38 loyalty payment too.) Now paying £70pm combined, so I should be well covered. 2 Bed top floor flat with a flat roof and bugger all cavity wall insulation. I'm with Atlantic, who are head and shoulders above BG and the like for customer service.

3 bed semi and we pay £116 for both G&E, 2 adults 1 kid.

My parents just got a letter to say theirs is going from £80 a month to £243 per month!!! :O Only the 2 of them, 3 bed cottage thing.

Dad rang to complain and to cancel with them, and they knocked £100 off straight away, but he's still not happy at that so is trying to move suppliers.

Currently paying about £15 a week (£60 a month) for electric, and around £20 a week (£80 a month) for gas.

That is on payment meters though and I am in the process of telling British Gas to go **** and moving over to Southern Electric. Coming off token meters all together eventually as I simply cannot afford prices like that.

I am paying 90 for Gas, 70 for Electric, was worried about the price increases but I got a letter saying we were £205 in credit and they put it back into our account and we didnt need to raise the payments, slightly amazed really.

Right, dammit, obviously need to sort out my bills!! I swear I can't be using the same as a 3 or 4 bedder!!!
It did suddenly go up from around 25 to 35 each, just assumed it was due to other factors. Warpath mode on (well, for the morning anyway!)

Bloody hell, I'm seriously shocked at how much people are paying a month!!!

I live in a 4 bed detached house with the missus and pay £60 a month for Gas and Electric combined with Scottish Power. When we moved into our house the old mechanical meter was faulty and so had a new one installed. I have seen quite a few faulty mechanical meters while at work and do wonder if some people are paying over the odds because of this.

I've installed over 600mm of insulation in the 3 lofts we have and have had cavity wall insulation installed. I do not have any halogen down lights or standard tungsten lamps anywhere in the house. We also have a super efficient modern boiler. Our bills were more in our old 3 bedroom place where we hadn't done any of this work, so it does seems to have paid off.

I own a large 5 bed house in London (rented at the mo) with a 130BTU boiler

when my I went to reconcile all the bills before the tenents moved in I couldn't find a Gas bill so spoke to the wife, turns out we have never paid a gas bill in 5 years, --- when I enquired, after getting it ready to rent Transco said we dont have a Gas meter -- so I said OK cheers

3 bed detached with two people living in it, a bungalow, and not particularly well insulated in the loft at the moment.

Gas : last quarter was £70 - mainly due to the mega efficient combi boiler we've just had installed.

Electric : last quarter was £240, around 2/3 of this is for the machinery and heating I use for work though ( so gets claimed as an expense ), so if I didn't work from home it would be around £80 for the quarter.

Anyone who is paying hundreds for gas or electric per month, and not living in a mansion, really should look at getting some more energy efficient appliances, and turning things off when you aren't using them ( leaving stuff on standby uses loads of power ) as there's no way you should be using that much power.
