What's your budget, who are you with and how long do you want to be out?
A train into London and doing the free galleries is a good way to spend the day.
If you have kids then Alton Towers isn't that far away.
I'd spens a free day in the gym followed by the pub to even it out!

Will take you about an hour if you cut up through Aylesbury. But need to go by car. It's a great place.

I have put several press trips together for journos in Somerset - if you need any more ideas, let me know. One trip was for the Oxford Mail.

There is no railway station in Woodstock - the line closed decades ago.
There is a station at Long Hanborough and you can walk into Blenheim Park the back way without paying the silly prices they charge for the park if you enter from Woodstock town.
Go onto Google and look at the satellite pictures of Long Hanborough. You will see there is access by a lodge across the road from the station and there are roadways and paths you can walk along inside the park to bring you round to the Palace.
In Woodstock there is a nice tea room down in the town [not the Blenheim Tea Rooms near the Triumphal Arch] or one of the nice pubs.
To get back into the grounds without paying, you walk down the hill on the main A44 road going towards Enstone/Stratford. At the bottom on the left is a small group of cottages behind a crash barrier. Just past there, at an angle to the road is a large painted double gate. Open the little personnel gate in the big gate and walk through and on into the park. It is a public right of way!
[If you miss this, go up the hill another 300-400 yards and turn left into the park on the signed public footpath].
Turn right and you go around the lake and over the lake bridge back towards the Palace and you can retrace your footsteps back to Long Hanborough.
Or, turn left and walk uphill and you are then on the main drive going back towards the Palace and, again, you can retrace your footsteps to Long Hanborough station.
There is a good museum in Park Street in Woodstock and some nice shops and galleries too.
Get into some of the back streets as well.
The walk each way will take an hour and a half max. Wear comfortable walking shoes or boots.
