Question Guaranteed snow within sensible driving distance from UK

I'm thinking of planning a trip next year to a place where I'll be guaranteed snow, (Europe) between Christmas and new year, I'd be traveling from Hampshire (UK) and am looking at driving it, spread across a couple of days so about 600 miles (max'ish).
Party would include 2 adults and 2 teens, would be looking for somewhere where we can go sledging, and maybe try a bit of skiing (non of us can ski - or are bothered about black runs red runs etc..). Would just be nice to get away for a week, stay at a place which has a few places to eat etc.. don't mind if we self cater or hotel.

Any advice much appreciated.

We often go to Austria (in Feb) to the Kreischberg. Very family friendly, some nice gentle slopes, ski school etc. From Swindon it's about a 950 mile drive though. It's all on motorway until the last 50 miles or so though so it's easy to do. We usuaully get the channel tunnel at around midnight on Friday night, and arrive at around 5pm on the Saturday. Easy to do if you have two drivers...

Highlands of Scotland are pretty much guaranteed snow. 500miles or so from where you are.

its Meribel i checked the spelling. i went for xmas a few years ago. we were really looked after and the nightlife was fantastic

i had never been snowboarding before but i had so much fun. off piste was great and no problems with the locals.

plenty of easy runs and to keep you going but just standing upright was hard enough. i got pretty good i thought

the gay thing was a nightmare. me and my mate thought we had the chalet to ourselves so we stole all the coat hangers. then a coach load of bods appeared we thought we were checking out the talent. each one in turn came to our bedroom to ask for hangers, was the scariest i had ever been

Or to save a few miles stay at Les Gets. Morzine or Les Gets, both are highly recommended.

Chamonix without a doubt for me.

Fairly easy to drive to a 3/4 large ski areas once your there. It is a resort that I have always found you need a car for so therefore it is well setup with B+B's rather than full of hotels geared for the holiday package people.

I usually head towards switzerland which isnt too far, pretty much guaranteed snow in all the destinations there. Although Zermatt and Davos are my favourites.

Meribel is also very good though, just i dislike the grubby french . The swiss are a lot more organised and the beer is better.

Zugspitz and Garmisch in Southern Germany. You can access Italy, France and Austria from the one spot.
