Smile Can anyone recommend a good driving/rally experince for a gift?

As above really, can anyone recommend a rally school etc that offers good value for money?

It's a gift for someone so would be a bit disappointed if there were rude staff/little time in the car/battered cars etc.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers
Ian

Rally Driving School, Rally Courses, Corporate Rally Driving near Silverstone in Northamptonshire, UK

I was bought this for my birthday a few years back. They use MkII Escorts but you get plenty of car time and it was great fun.

Really depends on your budget as there are more upmarket ones using 4wd modern cars.

Thanks Andy,

Looked at that one and it looks well run and local so it's good for it to be recommended. Budget is around £250-£300.

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Ian

This is the one I want to go on and it's based near Silverstone http://www.billgwynne.com/res_websit...ierCode=BGW100

They seem to have good reviews and good cars and offer a number of packages.

Hi Paul,

Good to hear from you, hope you are well mate.

Thanks for the recommendation - gives me some good food for thought. It's for my girlfriend so she can understand car control, oversteer etc so think both of these would be good.

Cheers,

Ian

Thumbs up

Bill Gwynne boys are good chaps - scoobies / mk2 escorts used at a partly disused airfield near Silverstone. They also run a school at the walters arena stage in Margam S Wales. Phil Price in Wales gets a thumbs up too

That's the one I bought for MrsD a couple of years ago, the morning in a Mk2 and a scoob for the afternoon

She started out terrified of just the idea of driving any car on a loose surface, and finished the day giving a 300bhp WRX the absolute berries round a pretty tricky little circuit

The instructor was fantastic, and the facilities for those just watching are pretty good too

Theres one run by the higgins family, of mark and david higgins fame in wales that a friend of mine went on which is supposed to be very good, uses Mk2's, i'll see if i can get more details but i'd say it is more authentic than the silverstone type stuff, downside being its in wales, silverstone is easier to get to i reckon.

And here it is : Forest Experience Rally School Wales, Rally Driving Days Wales

And they did stay with the higgins family, supposed to be very good experience so worth a look

I wouldn't try sideways in my own scoob I'd rather pay someone for the privilege of learning. There are quite a few videos on here of what happens when it goes wrong sideways in a scoob just do a bit of a search T5NYW's video is on here somewhere and that answers all the questions of what happens when it lets go and it's not a happy ending.

Anyway I used driveme.net for a supercar day and a rally experience however the rally experience means driving a scoob and an Evo on tarmac, although there was fun in a polo on a skid pan.

At Bill Gwynne's, the instructor had MrsD handbraking and powersliding both the Escort and the Scoob within two laps

Wink

Thanks very much chaps, it's good to see the same ones being recommended. Will toss a coin between Bill Gwynne's and the Silverstone one.

Cheers,

Ian

I did the Castle Combe driving day this year. You go out in a Focus, Formula Ford, Impreza and an Elise.

The instructors are very friendly and good teachers, they get you to go as fast as you want. The cars are in excellent condition.

I will go back for another go next year, and Castle Combe is a very interesting track too.
