i'd say there were around 1,000 - 2,000 active users judging by posts like you go into certain sections and it seems to be the same users most of the time

I saw this mentioned a while back based on the number of different IP addresses visted in per day. Can't for the life of me find the actual number though.

Anyhoo, a quick glance shows 197 members and 159 guests are currently online.

So, thats 159 lurkers, 96 spambots, 22 google/yahoo search spiders, and 47 Lewis accounts.

Which gives us 32 actual users currently on line

44 of them are now moderators - Trying to work out which of the other 43 are being naughty and have have 2 alternate accounts .

My Guess would be 2-3000 Members who have posted in the last month.

You can't and never will be able to base it on IP addresses

I can log in from at least 5 or six different IP addresses in any one day, and they can change wildly from day to day

If you (not sure if you have the rights to do it) do a cross check on all the IP addresses I have ever logged onto SN using just this particular Sonic' account (as I have another) you will probably find quite a number of other users registered on here that clearly aren't me

In the almost 10 years I have been on SN I have changed ISP many many times, and worked in several thousand companies some of them large corporates and I know I am not the only one to have logged onto SN

Anyhoo, in seriousness, I think Stu has access to more accurate site stats in terms of hits and users log-ins per day. Of course that needs to be crossed referenced against the IPs to filter out potential aliases.

I've been around these boards since 2001 and have used more than one username in that time. I lose passwords or access to old emailaccounts etc and so can never recover them.

Unless anyone knows how to recover an old account where I don't have the password. I know the account name, the original email address(no longer working) and seem to recall the pasword was all numbers and it was set by scooynet at the time not chosen by me. Thats why I can't remember the pass as it was random numbers.

Start a poll with the only option being 'Count me in, i'm an active user', run it for a week and keep bumping it to the top. If everyone that uses the forum votes it will give a realistic answer of how many active users are on here, not that i've thought about it much
