January Sales 2009
#1
![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
What are the shops going to do in January?
They are doing 20% OFF Everything now, some 50% OFF Offers around, buy one get one free offers, etc. etc.
What will the January sales be like? Or will there be no January Sales?
I'm sure everyone will be sick of spending for Xmas and will tighten their belts still further, thus driving the shops into even more panic measures?
On the car front - I see garages have pre-registered cars which are now sitting on their forecourts ...... some are 08 Plates with delivery mileage on!! I have never seen anything like it - those 08 cars are going to look really old when the 09 plates are on the roads

With the new rules coming into force here tomorrow there might be a "fire sale" of the username pslewis. After all, if users can only have one logon name which one are you going to use?

My work has already started the sale, earlier than ever. So I don't know what exactly will happen come January. Nothing much different I suspect, it's just they've got the ball rolling sooner.
I have only bought one Christmas present so far.
I've had to tighten my belt, so not many pressies this year.

went into "Blacks" today to buy a Northface 3 in 1 jacket for my GF.
the price was £175.00 and has been this price for 3 months. Yet windows where full of 20-50% off stickers etc.
asked sales guy what price he would sell at and was offered NO discount.
told him i would be back when the company start "hitting the fan" in a few weeks as the shop is empty and sales right down.
Shop must be mad not to try and lose stock as quickly as possible . Even at a small loss etc. Better than having lots of stock and no cash in tills to pay a % of bills and wages etc.
friend works for the Oxford street retailers Organization .She tells me the shops will have a "all out war" starting maybe this weekend as most shops are tied into buying next months stock and dont have the cash or credit to buy. But even then shoppers are holding out and want "blood". Rumors of 32 inch plasmas been sold for £200.00 are been talked about!!
Remember, many Big names have not paid their suppliers and landlords for years
My god it must be nice to have lots of cash and want to buy stuff now !!

I expect the retaliers that go bust will be offering good discounts in the January sales for obvious reasons, but I can't see the other shops discounting that much further - profit margins just wouldn't allow it!
I think the sales are here early, rather than the usual discounts being applied to the already-sale prices!

It's going to be a fire sale ![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Bicester village is selling stuff at 50% off the village price already.
Le Crueseut is practically giving away all their stuff, Gieves and Hawkes already have £1200 coats for £250, Bally bags for £100 from £300, Smythson wallets for £50, TAG and Zenith watches half price, BOSE systems (Wave, Cinema etc) half price...and NO-ONE was buying anything.
None of the above are advertised as a sale though![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Once the sale proper starts i'm going straight there to clean up and get a whole new wardrobe, kitchen equipment selection, and anything else i can get my grubby mitts on

By June 2009 i expect there to be such huge retail closures that the country finally wakes up and sees just how bad its getting. then by this time in 2010 , Millions to lose their jobs and the whole social security system will collapse.
i think this situation cannot be solved. Its going to take us all back into the dark ages.
I can imagine building security (gates/grills etc) will be big business ! as people get ready to "lock down"
And the Government to remove the Shotgun application system that allows almost anyone to own one. ( very very simple to apply)

I still can't find high street shops that can compete with internet prices, maybe clothes shops but I don't do much clothes shopping.
I have done most of my xmas shopping online, trying things out in shops first and buying on the web, most shops are not even interested in price matching unless it's a major competitor.
I don't see the point in getting up at stupid o clock to grab a bargain that's probably not a bargain and you don't 'really' need it.

Its not going to get better. Wait for the companies to try and order "next seasons" stuff. And see how the whole sellers react to not been paid.
