I remember here somewhere that there were somewhere which tells you previous details about the car such as owners, mileage etc i know i will need to do a hpi but i want to try to find out as much details as possible before doing the hpi.

I have been told the car is a cat d already buy the current owner.

No There aint.
As you already know its been written off, get a proper check done to see when it happened, or if it owes finance on it.
