all majour networks dont run down their customers credit overtime, but typically you will need to make a chargable call every 6 months or you will be disconnected.
I worked at an orange store up until september(started uni) and we had a nokia priced at 9.99 but the screen was tinted so it was hard to see in bright light. have a look online, carphonewarehouse etcetc. there should be a few basic nokias for that sort of price.
but watever you do makesure you only get a nokia or perhaps samsung, the motorola and budget make equivlants are useless and are much more likely to go wrong.
hope this helps.

I would recommend my basic Nokia but for one fault.
Everytime someone rings me it switches itself off.
Don't think it is an uncommon fault.
Anyway,all mobiles should be burnt

The old people I know like the Motorola V3
Reason being: big screen and big readable buttons (also "trendy", so I've been told ). Also beinga flip-phone it doesn't do random stuff when its in your pocket (barring the ringing profiles )
However the menu system takes some working out to navigate. So they need to still have their intiutive with gadgets, so if they can succesfully operate a DVD recorder, then they should do ok.
