Right
My gf took really badly ill on Monday - Had to get taken to hospital from her work
Long story short
I stayed at work yesterday as my mum went to the hospital to see her
I was off work today - Spoke to my boss an told her im needed at home to look after my gf - She was sound with that but the way she was on the phone seemed to be like she was expecting me in tomorrow.
I thought my gf would of been a bit better today but she hasnt improved at all Im hoping she will be better by thursday
How do i go about been off work tomorrow - Just call an leave a message like we usually do or do i ask for dependence leave (i think thats what its called)
Is it dependence leave??
Also my work are bellends about people been off could they give me **** for it or anything
Cheers

Tell em you have the ***** and self certify yourself for a week
Seriously though, I think there is something about dependancy leave but from previous experience it doesnt count for partners unless you are married. Im sure this is the case as when my Grandad died ASDA wouldnt let my girlfriend take the time off to go to the funeral in Manchester with me. If we were married it would have been ok.
Id certainly check before presuming you can do it.

We lived together too at the time dependancy didnt count. I also thought theres no such recognised thing as common law partner anymore

As far as I know your partner counts as a dependent but that sort of leave is only for the emergency part, eg taking them to hospital or arranging for ongoing care, not the care itself.
Your employer doesn't have to pay you either.

Just be honest and tell the truth .Any decent employer should sympathise so long as you dont take the Pi** .
If your previous attendance is good ,Im sure they wont give you a Bollockin !!!!

Speak to your boss directly the minute they arrive at work, tell them you have to have the time off and leave the decision making to them.
At the end of the day the worst that can happen is they don't pay you however I find that highly unlikely.

If you self cert yourself when they know you are more than likely not ill and just want the time to look after yout g/f you may well find yourself on a disciplinary on your return.
Most companies are prepared to give unpaid compasionate leave if approached and you can give them an indication of how long you may need off.

As long as you keep work informed you shouldnt have an issue.
If you are off tomorrow and the next day, whatever, just make sure you phone them every morning and let them know.
Dont skip a phone call to them, if you dont phone them and let them know every morning they may choose to see it as failure to turn up to work etc.
Hope the missus feels better soon.

I agree with this post. If you can, actually go in and talk to your manager face to face, rather than over the phone.
Best of luck and hope your gf gets better soon.

i had this problem a yr or so ago,i have 2 young kids, they werent at school then so both at home, missus was very ill so i had 4 days off,i said i was ill with something.
then a few mths later she`s ill again, same thing, i had 2 days off lookin after kids again.
then i had to have 1 day off, when i returned,i daftly said the missus was ill and it all kicked off, luckily i was only off the 1 day but i got this whole lecture on how u cant be off work if a partners ill blah blah blah.
depends on where u work i think and how nice they are/understanding.

Me
rolling 5 days over, how the fudge I'm gonna take 30 + days I don't know as this year I didn't manage 27.
To the OP, I would be on the phone to your boss, ideally it would be face to face. If you have a decent boss, they should give you the option of unpaid leave on compasionate grounds, or a weeks paid but taken as holiday.
IIRC the company I work for will give me up to a week paid compasionate.
