You probably aint gonna believe this but I was think this morning during a walk that I'd never seen the words "moot point" used on Scoobynet and, to be frank, was unlikely to see it being used.
But I've seen it being used twice on separate threads today.
Maybe this new era has resulted in a higher standard of debating than the old days

No - a moot point is one that can only be sorted out by discussion. The Yanks consider a moot point as one that could be debated, but probably not worth doing so.

There's a name for it...
Words and phrases that are wrong but sort of make sense are called eggcorns, mute point is one:
