My daughter has a temp job with a major pharmaceutical company with about 900 staff in her office alone.
Despite only being a temp she got invited to the office Christmas do tonight.
Well everyone gets a coach ride to a luxury country hotel for a full sit down job. Free bar all night - which strikes me as a bit dangerous
- and an overnight stay at the hotel or one just up the road.
And yes I have warned her
Any one else doing it in style?

Does anyone on this forum actually know why we eat turkey as the main constituent of our Christmas meal ?
I do, but i'll bet there will be some cracking interpretations

Originally people roasted Turkish Delight which people would eat by dipping their roast bananas in it and finish it all off with some mint spiders.
Sadly the recipes have become lost in translation over the years hence the big dry bird,goose fat roasties and currents mashed into a little pie case,
Oh,hope she enjoyed the party....we are going to the local golf club for the few staff to moan about the sloppy veg...then sod off home

saturday, free meal, freeze booze, localish to where I live so taxi home (free - either the mrs or taxi but its free )
shame the place is small and cramped and there will be over a hundred people there, mostly overweight supporting the bar. In fact half of them look like turkeys, glad I ordered beef

Which is a fatty fowl but this gave us goose fat to rub into our chests when we had winter colds (Vick is better).
When we discovered the Americas in 1770's there were loads of big breasted birds running around wild.
One of these birds could feed 10 or more people so they shipped live birds back to Britain and ancestors of Bernard Matthews came into being.
Butchers did a good trade in these birds and so it became traditional to have one at Christmas, Easter or any other big celebration.
and good old USA
Turkey for Thanksgiving;
Roast beef or goose for Christmas;
Ham for New Year's Eve.
