Are we going to get to a point where we have to pay more than £1 for 1 euro?
I suspect if you drew money from an ATM in Europe this would already be the case, but the ACTUAL rate is getting very close to one to one.
ah well, I've never been to Scotland

The way the BoE is frantically slashing rates, and it's becoming obvious to the rest of the developed world that we don't actually have an economy anymore then yes I expect we'll be paying well over a pound for 1euro next year

They are nowhere near as screwed as us tho. Maybe Spain and Ireland, but all the other countries are in a MUCH stronger position than the UK. That's why the pound has collapsed against the euro.
Germany make very good quality items and export them so have easily the strongest economy.
Our economy was based on selling repackaged debt to each other, and then buying German exports...

Would it stop you going to Europe on Holiday?
I might spend £1000 while on a weeks holiday between 3 of us, will another £300 extra really stop me going away....I'm not so sure.
Some Ski passes maybe a bit dear for a family of 4 going Skiing this year though

I live in Holland and pay a loan I have in the UK...... I really like the fact that my euro is going farther... I hope the UK does not join the euro untill my debt is paid.
Obviously, for my parents, who live in the UK, it is not a good situation.

The Euro zone was ridiculously over-priced anyway. On my stag do in Ireland this year, we were often paying between 7 & 9 Euros a Pint! In 4 days we blew almost £1000 each!
And that was when the rate was 1.3:1. Can't see many people going over there now when it almost 1:1.

They have always said that there are 5 economic tests to apply to whether we join the Euro, and until all those tests are satisfied then we cannot consider joining.
Which bit is a lie?

WAS it a lie? And if not, why has the pound fallen CONSISTENTLY against the Euro? It's lost almost 60% of it's origianl value against the Euro, so far

No. Labour have consistantly said that we will join the Euro when the 5 conditions have been met. I really don't know where you are getting this "weak" currency line from and how it equates to a "labour lie".

1.Are business cycles and economic structures compatible so that we and others could live comfortably with euro interest rates on a permanent basis?
2.If problems emerge is there sufficient flexibility to deal with them?
3.Would joining EMU create better conditions for firms making long-term decisions to invest in Britain?
4. What impact would entry into EMU have on the competitive position of the UK's financial services industry, particularly the City's wholesale markets?
5. In summary, will joining EMU promote higher growth, stability and a lasting increase in jobs?

Gordon Brown, on the day the Euro came into being, without us.
The Euro is a weak currency compared to the pound. We need to keep with the pound for the foreseeable future.
