Now I know the bass guitar might be the most overlooked of rock instruments, but there are a few memorable, nay iconic bass guitar "moments". My personal choices are:
1. Peaches -The Stranglers
2. The Chain- Fleetwood Mac
3. Two Tribes - Frankie goes to Hollywood
4. Intro to The Ace of Spades - Motorhead
5. Intro to No More Heroes - The Stranglers
Any more?

YouTube - Newton Faulkner - Teardrop (Comical intro: Rusted Root)
Not sure if it counts?

A quick glance at my iTunes library reveals these gems amongst many others:
Blitz - Never Surrender (old punks never die!)
Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave
Dr Feelgood - Roxette
Iggy & The Stooges - Dirt
Iggy & The Stooges - Little Doll
Joy Division - Twenty Four Hours
Joy Division - Day of the Lords
Korn - Bottled up inside (how heavy can that get?)
Machine Head - Days Turn Blue To Gray
Anthrax - Bring The Noise (with Public Enemy) - 'specially at the end!
Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the Name (surely the best riff ever?)
Rage Against The Machine - Bullet In The Head (another contender)
The Ruts - Jah War
System of a Down - Atwa
Thin Lizzy - Dancing in the Moonlight
Tool - Aenima
White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (the catchiest of them all?)
so many to choose from!

Some good calls there Frenchie
But since the guitar it was played on has two too many strings, Seven Nation Army surely doesn't count

Transmission - excellent call. The bass has to have that trebly, slightly distorted sound for my favourite riffs. The Rickenbacker bass is a favourite of mine for that reason.
A bit more obscure, but how about "The Light Pours out of Me" by Magazine? Barry Adamson is one of the great lost bassists. Rickenbacker again - fantastic.

Transmission - Joy Division. Recorded live, before Hooky got his bass as low is it could practically get (with a little bit of telly-friendly 'Evidently Chicken Town' by John Cooper Clarke too: substituting 'bloody' for 'f*cking')...
