Default Driver's Health Checks

Even more nannying, the governments New Years resolution must be to further victimise car owners.

Drivers Face Regular Health MOTs - Yahoo! News UK

I wonder if the mental check will include a check on the ability of the driver to differentiate between slow and fast lanes on a motorway, and the ability of the old and infirm to drive at speeds demonstrating confidence on the road rather than everywhere at 15mph

How many times have you seen elderly drivers at 15 MPH on the open road? Gross exaggeration does nothing to strengthen any point you wish to make.

Im not, im not a crap driver, but most of the stuff you have to do to pass your test is bollock5, who looks in the rear view when braking?, who actually stops at stop signs if there is no one coming the other way?

Test over 60's regularly, they need it!

I would agree it is mostly crap in the test, however 'bad' habbits are picked up over years of driving and it would be interesting to see what the result of everyone driving like they have just passed a test would be, I wonder if it would actually be safer....

As for the over 60's they should only be let out to drive on Sundays not extended weekends lol.

TBH Les, they all seem to pootle round here where I live at that speed, although the odd one or two does manage to get to nearly 25mph when we hit the 40 limit, and then curse and flash when I overtake them.

The idea is very good in theory, if the right things are tested, but I cant honesty see it happening, purely from an administrative point of view it would be horrendous to implement.
LOL at the thought of the government managing this with their track record of anything IT based !

I often find a member of the 40/40 club on my route into work. That's 40 in the 60 (NSL) zone, then 40 in the 30 limit through a village

Funny there's some members of the same club round this way too - today they had a new challenge. Driving whilst peering through a 5 inch square of clear windscreen with the rest completely iced over.

I fear tomorrows challenge will include all of the above whilst applying makeup and eating breakfast

HGV drivers will have to retake their CPC to renew their driver card every 5 years from 2013/14 (bus/hgv).

Wont be a "test" so to speak but will require 40 hours training every 5 years. Wont be long before they put some form of test in there...
