Following on from the Gerrad thread, and the incident a while back where a footballers dangerous driving killed a family, itseems these so called sporting 'stars' still think they can do pretty much anything.. what an example they are setting to others..

On the face of it seems like an accident that could really happen to anyone not paying full attention to driving .

this story is only in the paper because the guy is a footballer. Whilst never condoning dangerous driving, im sure there were other crashes, some unfortunatly fatal, over the xmas period that the papers have decided not to publish a report of.

Yes, terrible but it doesn't reek of ego driven selfishness, just stupidity as practiced by a fair proportion of society, like that stupid girl that killed someone whilst texting.

I know they are in the spotlight due to their job & the money they earn but the papers do make a meal out of them.

Like that video they released of mcormick from when he was notified in police custody one of the kids had died. If it wasn't for him being a footballer that would never have been released.

Not defending the bloke hes in the right place now & it was a disgrace he drove in the state he did.

Not much to add, but a different newspaper reported him using a mobile at the time of the crash............

EDIT

Looks like might have been an ipod.

Footballer arrested over crash which killed father-of-five was 'changing songs on iPod' while driving on M1 | Mail Online

Yes, however, the guy is in the public eye and therefore newsworthy.

It appears that he allowed himself to be distracted by operating his Ipod and the result is that another man died.

Footballer or not, that puts the blame in his court and he deserves a significant sentence if found guilty.

Hmm - the other guy could have been off his head on drugs driving down the wrong side of the road for all we know !

If we're going to start throwing away the keys because people get distracted when driving then the jails are going to need to be much bigger !

If you take a life through irresponsible behaviour then you should be held accountable. End of.

Why ?

The bloke that died could well have been doing something worse than the guy that "killed" him !

Until we know the facts I don't think we should be locking up anyone !
