Default Chris Hoy Knighted?

Is this a bit ott?
Bruce Forsyth must be wondering why he has to wait another year, surely he is a more worthy case?

Haven't they both had enough recognition for what they've done already? How about celebrating some unsung heroes for a change?

Bruce Forsythe has been doing an easy well paid job for 500 years - why should he be knighted for it ?

Chris Hoy has given youngsters something to aim for and something to aspire to - Much more worthy imho.

Scotland's most successful Olympian and most successful Olympic male cyclist of all time, I reckon he’s earned it.

I think people like Hoy do deserve some recognition but there are far, far more unsung heroes out there that deserve it more.

For example, both my kids had to have 3-4 blood transfusions whilst still in the womb (and several when born) or they would have died.
The Prof. who did these and who has also researched, developed and implemented many medical procedures over his lifetime to save prem. babies and those like mine, has to date received no recognition at all.
He's been doing it for 30 years and has even put his own money into it due to lack of funding.
He only works in the NHS and does NO private work.

He, to me anyway, is who the word 'dedicated' was invented for.
Sadly these kind of people, and there are thousands of them, get overlooked all to often for honours.

If someone performs in sport consistently for 15-20 years then I suppose an honour is merited.

For someone earning millions each year for either driving quickly or kicking a football about, then I'm not so sure....

Agreed.

I'm afraid I'm in the above mentioned 'ride a bike fast and become a Sir' is a bit odd.Again,as above, just winning those medals was the peak

Mind you,the whole honours system is a load of junk.Ever since I watched the English cricket team awarded the AWaT medal (Actually won a Test) I take no notice

You should nominate him for an award.

Nominate someone for an honour : Directgov - Do it online

I don't know him so I can't do it for him - but you should

I'm not knocking him or his achievements,I just think the honours system is a joke.

Surely for a sportsman or woman the achievement of their dreams/efforts is securing the medals, not people having to call you Sir Chris

Course it is - Its the icing on the cake though isn't it - Its the state recognising people that make fantastic achievements. Course you have the "headline" people that get awards, but there will be many more that get awards for , say, running a charity for years etc.

And Terry Pratchett. I'm not sure what a Knighthood is for, but he has certainly entertained constantly and intelligently for the last 20 years.
