Default why all this sympathy for Steven Gerrard???

some of the papers are making pretty light of what he's (allegedly) done, in The Sun (so it must be true) they're saying fellow footballers are texting him with goodwill messages, to 'keep his chin up' etc

is this the same ABH charge that Joey Barton was treated like a lepper for?

and Tweedy got off quite well when she twatted some worker in a nightclub aswell i seem to remember.

we all know nothing will come of it and the bloke will be given a backhander to go away, but is it just me that finds the Press give some strange conceptions of people at times?

if it was you or me on the streets doing that we'd be banged up by now, but because he's good at kicking a ball and keeps himself under the radar (at least in most of the publics eyes) he gets different treatment? most odd.

Gerrard has been "charged" Barton was "convicted". Big, big difference.
Plus of course, Barton has a history of being a complete thug, Gerrard hasn't.

I'm puzzled as to why someone charged with an offence is allowed to be reported in the media.

In this instance, none of us know what happened and whether Gerrard is guilty or innocent. He may be innocent - in which case it's not right the public ever knows. If he's found guilty - then it can be reported and he should be treated in the same way as anyone else.

No sympathy from me, a Liverpool fan. I don't think a professional athlete, 29 and father of 2, should be out at 0230 in a drinking club.

And agree with Pete above. Big, big difference between Barton and Gerrard.

i'd agree totally, Barton is a **** of the highest order. but he was torn to pieces from the off by the press from the moment he was charged. then, quite rightly, treated how he should have been when convicted.

just all seems a bit 'jokey' with gerrard to me.

Firstly, how do you know he was drinking. Secondly, peoples lives dont stop because theyre 29 and have 2 kids

FWIW, if hes been charged then theres a good chance hes guilty and have somthing on CCTV, especially if it happened in a city centre somewhere. Regardless though, I cant see why hes getting alot of sympathy

Thats the way of things though isn't it. If you had, say, Russell Brand charged with ABH, then the media would absolutely slaughter him, if the same happend to , say, Chris Hoy, the media would be far more sympathetic. Just another reason not to read papers

Face it, if Gerrard had been an ordinary guy he would of been arrested and released in about ten mins......... it would not suprise me if he had a very minor role (if any) in what actually happened.

He's 29, hes still young! Surely he deserves to go out with his mates ?

Liverpool FC are 'giving him their full support' apparently. If he is found guilty, and as he has been charged then there must be some evidence that he his, then they should not be supporting him

I've just be reading this ridiculous article online..
Liverpool must not rest Steven Gerrard in FA Cup - Telegraph

'Liverpool's captain is being reminded how highly he is regarded by all at Anfield. The supportive call from his manager, Rafael Benitez, came through on Tuesday morning followed by an emphatic statement of support from the club. On Wednesday it will be the squad's turn to express their admiration for their team-mate, leader, inspiration and friend.
When Gerrard arrives at training at Melwood, the likes of Jamie Carragher will show the No 8 how much he is held in their esteem. Benitez's back-room staff will also rally round, Sammy Lee doubtless delivering a few crisp words of encouragement. At Preston North End on Saturday, Liverpool fans will get their chance to voice their love for the team's heartbeat.
Everyone associated with Liverpool will give their backing to Gerrard as the judicial process unfolds over his assault charge. Amid all the chants from Liverpool fans and sympathetic comments from colleagues, what Gerrard needs to hear most now is a referee's whistle, signalling the start of a match, the chance to prove a point and remind the world of his ability. '

His ability is not in question.. his actions are though. And what exactly are his fellow players admiring..? his ability to attack someone??

All the 'role' models pulling together and setting a great example to the criminal youth on housing estates across the land.

Good on them.

I'm guessing here but you're not a professional athlete nor a high profile media figure.

Any 'normal' person wouldn't get backing from their employer if they were charged for assault and if found guilty many would get sacked for then having a criminal record.
why should he be sacked?????.....
Regarding Mutu, drugs is forbidden in football under UEFA rules.... please show me the rule indicating that a player must be sacked by the club if he is guilty of a crime.
