Vax or Bissell?
Any other make to consider?
Steam or water?
Have a VAX 3 in 1 .... which lives in the garage - juat a pain in the rear end to assemble.
So looking for something 'instant' maybe an upright?
Looked at reviews but they are pretty inconclusive .... so, over to you SN - point me in the right direction

Weve got one of these and its very good. Will remove all sorts of stains no problem. Had a Vax before and it just does not compare to this cleaner.

Pete,
No its not a Hoover just a cleaner. It heats the water as well before cleaning the carpets unlike a Vax. Also has a removable hose to get into small areas and to apply to any hard to remove stains. Having used it quite a few times now I'd say its does as good a job as any proffesional cleaners weve used in the past.

Errr, you could have bought that same model reconditioned from Bissell for £123 with a 12 month guarantee
I had two Vax's from Costco - both broke. I then took the Bissell you've purchased, again from Costco - it broke as well. The cleaning fluid feed broke and the stuff poured out whether you the trigger pulled on or not.
The Bissells are streets ahead of the Vax's for cleaning carpets.
We downgraded to this one Bissell Shop Direct :: Products :: Reconditioned :: PowerWash ProHeat as the one you've bought weighs a ton. The recon'd one from Bissell does everything the larger one did and it's a damn site easier to use as it's lighter and not as wide.
p.s. although it's recon'd it looked as new when it arrived and still going well

Sorry chaps- I've got no pics of a maid...or the mother-in-law!

We have a Bissell and it does a great job - but does use cleaning fluid at a high rate of knots which ain't cheap. The missus used it a lot when we first got it but it mostly lurks round in the garage unless there's a disaster now (comes in handy when you flood part of the carpet!)
