Nissan to cut 1200 jobs in Sunderland.
25% of the workforce, and who knows how many from suppliers.
BBC NEWS | England | Wear | Nissan plant to shed 1,200 jobs
Wasn't Sunderland held up as a shining example of car manufacturing? God knows what the future holds for Ford/Vauxhall.

this is a load of **** imo
Nissan Sunderland have been trying to get the wage bill down for years!
give some waffle about cash crisis, get rid of loads of the old timers who are on the top pay band, then start fresh in a few months time with a load of much cheaper temps, you mark my words! this is what will happen!

they hire and fire every week of the year, been there and done that
the problem for them is that they can get fresh meat in, trying to prove themselves and working for less then some old timer who has been at the place for 15 years, and is on a higher rate of pay!
the sunderland plant is ruthless in saving time + money
probably why its looked up towards by other plants as its considered the best.

They seem quite popular around here actually, about 5 in my street. I do live in Sunderland though.

Then the quality of the work dropped and more and more batches were being held up in QA, it really fcuked up production, which in turn led to more jobs going as the macclesfield site was seen as not pulling its weight, so the production quotas went to Caponago in italy, and now AZ macc is a ghost town compared to 3 years ago (1.5k production related employess to 800) full of temporary workers on half what the AZ staff were on, and they know this, so sit there all day doing the bare minimum, and ignoring half the rules realting to batch production!
