Having finally got my bike and all the 'bits' (pump, lights etc..) I was just wondering if in this litigious world, is there any need to have insurance for riding a bike?
Am I covered under my third-party car insurance?

Should be covered via your buildings and contents insurance for personal liability but it's worth checking what it actually covers.
Most specialist bike insurers, i.e. for theft, usually include a personal liability element.
Many years ago when I got my Marin Mount Vision I looked into insuring it, my contents cover said they couldn't quote for a £1600 bike so I looked into specialist insurers for theft etc. Seem to remember the lowest quote I got was around £160 a year so didn't bother in the end as I wasn't liable to be leaving my bike anywhere it would get nicked.

I am thinking of getting some but to be honest I think I pay enough insurance
already
Life * 2
Cars * 2
House
Central Heating cover
Probably £200 a month in insurance already.

I don't really need it to cover theft as the bike isn't worth that much (£250) it is more the crashing into things... so I will look at my buildings and contents, thank you.

Check out the Cyclist's Touring Club. You have to join to be insured with them, but I remember it being easily the cheapest when I cycled a lot. They also include Third party and legal cover, and have many other benefits. A top organisation!
