Default does your partner spoil the kids?

Mine does,

My seven year old has had 3 mp3 players (all lost) and an old mobile that plays music and films,

he spots an old mp3 player of mine in the bedside drawer, and has to have it. its got no earphones or charger but he absoutley has to have it and rather than say no she rings me at work to say no to him. iam quite strict with him and she does everything for him, he hasnt got anytmie for her but will do anything for me,
this will be his fifth now, all the ones before all lost and he cant be arsed finding them.
its the same all the time.

he played on my mates electric guitar and pestered like **** till she bought him a toy one.

he is moaning right now because he cant be arsed finding his football kit.

when i tell them i had the square root of **** all when i was their age they all laugh.
i am sick of telling her to stop buying the **** she does for them.

its on the floor for a few days the its never bothered with again. and ends up in the bin.

then me and the wife fall out over it and end up not speaking .
surely kids ned a happy home and not more and more **** to play with?

Yes. My 4 year old went through a phase of welcoming his mum home with the words "what have you bought for me?". She's toned it down a bit now, thankfully.

But she does occasionally ask why he pesters her for stuff constantly but not me. She doesn't like it when I point out that it's because he knows I'll say no. Even the cat knows not to bother meowing at me for food.

That's a common one in our house. "Put something on he likes". When he pays the Sky HD subscription he can watch what he likes, when he likes.

JM - Been there done that, my 10yr old was told last week that he was a spoilt brat. I didnt like saying it but he just wound me up. Me & his mother dont stay together, so he was on the phone to her right away & then she was on shouting at me so i just told her to **** off, not like me but he was getting his own way.
Kids nowadays dont know the meaning off having nothing.
Thank **** i stay myself

im not starting rowing in front of the kids.

it seems that whenever she gets paid its straight to tk maxx for purses for her and to tat shops for the kids.
we have been given a few bikes but as an example hes on his third mountain bike now. hes seven. he got a psp for xmas even though he has a ds.
i can see it now he will want the same games for the psp that he has for his ds, and shes stupid enough to get them for him

Not only is she slagging you off but you're paying the phone bill for the priviledge. Sounds like it's not only the kids that are getting away with murder.

It's time to show them all who's boss.

Only joking, of course.

My old dear is like this, but it's not kids any more, it's useless **** for round the house and garden.
I want a new blender... What's wrong with the ****ing old one, it's not broken.
I want a bread maker... Where is it now, in the ****ing attic.
I want a log burner... So who's going to pay for ripping out the marble fireplace and gas fire you wanted installed a few years ago... to replace a REAL FIRE.
I need another DVD recorder... to record more **** she never gets round to watching. Well use mine... "I don't understand how to use it"

Bird logic!!

Woe betide me if I leave a light on for 30 nano seconds though.. I get the riot act about paying the electric bill

Bloody hell man, this sounds like a case in desperate need of some old skool clip round the ear discipline

Seriously mate, you need to nip this in the bud, the 3 Mp3's alone is waaaay to much to be getting away with!!

Hmm tough one to explain this, my lad does he have nice things yes, is he spoilt - no. He earns his treats, by being good at school etc. If he wants a game for example, he will SAVE HIS POCKETMONEY, people seem to have lost sight of this, how will they learn the value of money otherwise.

He gets a fair bit mind, but he has saved hundreds in his OWN bank account, so if he wants something then he gets his Mum to withdraw enough and he goes out and gets it. He hasn't been buying much recently as he has it in his head that he is saving to go to university. He is 9 btw.

quite some yrs ago, I went out with a lady who had a child with someone else. the little girl about 8 then lived with us.

dad was a right penniless dead loss: couldn't even drive, pay maintainance etc.

and an obsessive footie fan: I found my weekends working around running the child about for shared care, fitting around when his bloody team were playing !!!!

then when he did bother to have her: its was his mum that did everything for her: he'd buy her cheap junk food, let her watch telly/play computer games all day/night. by the time we'd get her back she was literally like a zombie- poor little thing.

i think on her 9th b.day or xmas, she was given a mobile phone: why on earth does a child need one ?

problem was- because dad just bought everything she wanted- albeit cheap crap as he had no money: when she was with us it carried on.

you've got to start off as you mean to go on-both with kids and wives !!!!!!!!!

Our daugher has been spoilt in the past and I guess in respect to other kids she still is. This year we cut back on the presents at xmas and we made her choose a selection from the Argos book and write it all down for Santa. She is 7.

We then went through it and fitted what we could into the budget we had allocated to her. She has a toy room which is a constant battle to get her to clean it but at least its drumming in the need to keep things tidy.

Our big problem is that my wife and daughter will start to argue (almost every morning) I bite my tongue for as long as I can, I say something and then they both fall out with me.

Our 4 month old will be happy with sticks and cardboard boxes when he is old enough!
Trying to avoid plastic tat if possible. I'm sure I'm not being realistic though.

The old saw about spoiling children is absolutely right. If you keep giving then everything they want they soon get bored with whatever it is and want something else immediately. The other thing is that they won't think any better of you either.

I have found that the best way is that if they do want something then make them save up for it from their pocket money. If they have to work at it to get something then they will appreciate it and won't become bored quickly since they know that the next thing won't come easily or quickly.

This will serve them well in later life too since they realise that no one owes them a living and they have to do it all for themselves.
