Fat people.
Her indoors is watching Supersize Vs. Superskinny. There was a segment with a bunch of large ladies and they seemed to be having a good laugh and even commented that they were very happy with who they were.
But do you think fat people are happy being fat? or is it just a defence mechanicism when they are all "i'm large and proud"
I personally am very skinny and I am unhappy with it but it seems to be more socially acceptable to go "you could do with a few more pounds!" rather than going, "get on the treadmill tubby!"

Feeling happy or unhappy with anything is a state of mind. Defense mechanism as a tool certainly helps changing one's state of mind. Apart from that, I think it is coming to terms with the fact that one might as well be happy with something one doesn't want to/can't change e.g. getting thin or growing big. Survival is most important, so is the confidence for survival. Grouping with others that are in the same boat (no pun, please) helps people to turn their negative feelings about themselves into positive ones.
Surely "Put some pounds on" goes down better than "get some pounds off". They are learnt concepts that we grow up with, and live with. It could have easily been other way round, like it is, in some African countries.

If you're in a traffic jam and look in the mirror, and in the car behind sits a couple of "chubbies", you can bet, before the lights change they will be tucking into a pasty
try it next time you in a Jam

I have actually found that if you check out a car and it has anything like Playboy decals or a "Princess" sunstrip it's always owned by not a fat person, but an insanely fat mess of a person.

What if they catch one checking them out whether they are tucking into a pasty or not, won't one get into some kind of pickle? I am not taking that risk

Certainly being 'fat' is more acceptable these days. And my definition of being fat is very far out of touch.
Deep down I would say that people who are obesely overweight are very unhappy and cover it well. And of course when you are unhappy you tend to eat making the problem worse.

I have a few "chubby" friends and they are not remotely bothered about their weight and are never short of attention They seem more than happy with their lot and take great delight in laughing at us thinner ones. ie, wearing skinny jeans
Personally, I find fat men a bit of a turn off, but it would not stop me being friends or finding them interesting in their own right, just because of their size.
I doubt it bothers them

Anyone see Holby City tonight - refused to treat a smoking fatty as doc felt he needed to make an effort and surgery whilst obese was more risky... S hit the fan!!!
I think it should be more about health than looks or vanity (within reason). But are fatties (even 'happy' full fat Coke ones) an unfair burden on the NHS???
It is a conscious choice at the end of the day - and I choose Rioja and oven chips

its all a screen/mirror to disguise the fact they can't walk, climb stairs, make love etc without having a near heart attack.
met someone, through my work who was 40 stone and bed bound the other day.
nice life choice- what point when you were shovelling the food in and started needing nappies did you think- nice life style choice.
its true though- the fatties are the ones raiding the vending machines at work all day- likewise having endless sandwich deliveries.
its glandular-- **** off- its pie-ular and yr fat face.

BigJay - you can put on healthy weight but it's pretty hardcore. I put on 3 stone in two years but was a gym slave the whole time. I also ate rather a lot and was on a student budget!

It is certainly true that fat people do tend to have happy personalities. No particular reason for it, they seem to just be like that and I find that to be a good thing.

I am overweight/fat but I'm ok with that it doesn't hinder me in any way and generally i'm quite healthy but if there was an easy way to be slimmer of course I would go for it, but maintaining a healthy weight for me is torture and makes me miserable so FAT it is

A twenty stone woman, getting ready for a fancy dress party, says to her hubby, "I've got nothing to wear!"
To which he replied, "pull your **** flaps over your head and go as a sugar puff!"
