Getting Fitter - Cross Trainers Help
Anyone bought one and are seeing good results. I'm tempted to buy one in an effort to loose a few pounds before I get married in July.
Any suggestions which one to avoid and which are better for around the £250.00 mark
Thanks for any help

As Dave says, you are far better off getting some decent running shoes or a bike. Indoor machines get very dull very quickly. And that's from a lifelong gym bore.

It now just sits in the corner collecting dust. Punch it ever now & then (mostly after a few drinks) and neither the last 2 girlfriends liked it. They say it's staring at them
It's just something else to dust ATM.
Saying that though, I am thinking about getting a Treadmill.

In my opinion you're better off going to a gym. Unless you spend lots of money on home equipment it's not going to be as good as the pro stuff and will probably end up used as a clothes rack. I had a home treadmill which did exactly this, I ended up giving it away I also find that being in a gym makes me work harder than if I was at home because I'm so busy trying not to look pathetic in front of everyone else

In a perfect world I would get outside..... I wanted to do something until it was light enough at night to ride out on my bike as I'm not a complete cabbage and usually at work by 8am and not home til 7pm

I bought a treadmill last year, I love outdoor walking if we go to the Lakes or the Peaks but where we live it's flat as a pancake, at least I can put the t'mill on an incline.
It works for me; I do an hour each day, usually watching TV at the same time and a set programme on the machine so I'm not tempted to slack off.
I know if I joined a gym I would find excuses not to go (no time, bad weather etc etc) and I don't fancy going for a run by myself in the dark so having something at home suits my lifestyle. I have had a couple of items in the past though that were more useful for hanging clothes on , I think with this the various programmes make the difference because I don't want the machine to beat me IYKWIM.

P1 - if you have a bike just get some proper lights. £100 gets you decent ones. Night riding is great fun!
Bits I did buy for home and still use two or three times a week are:
Powerbar pull up bar.
Decent dumbells.
A decent heavy (30kg) bag for kickboxing stuff.
Exercise mat
Errors are:
Ab roller
Swiss ball

Agree with the opinion that you are probably better off down the gym, but if you are going to get a cross trainer, spend a bit of money on it. Don't get a cheapo argos make one. They fall apart in weeks.
I recently got one of those cheap steppers. Had to do a 50 minute session on it just to build up a sweat. By that time, I had melted the plastic cable wheel! Whoops!

as said above, cross trainer is good if you have injuries, it also exercises the entire body so it really shoots your heartrate up.
Personally, and I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I'm getting really good results from running atm.I used to hate it, but I'm rapidly changing my opinion the better I get at it. It helps that I'm pretty much vegan during the day, only eat fruit, salad and drink water, so I'm losing a lot of weight too.

There is a great cross trainer, it looks just like your sofa and comes with a TV remote control (translated: x-trainers are ****e unless you fork out grands for em i.e. get proper gym ones)

I trained for duathlons over 3 years, and the cross trainer had the biggest impact on my fitness. 45 mins on there with your heart rate at a sufficient level and you'll get fit in no time.
My ideal situation is:
20 mins run
20 mins cross train
20 mins cycle
