Brussles or Bruges?
Anyone been and got recommendations? Want to go for 3 nights as our short honeymoon and go on the Eurostar. Ruled Paris out as too expensive and been before and would rather somewhere quieter/less busy.
Currently googling hotels and things to do etc but thought i'd ask for any experiences on here.
Also what is there to do as seen there are horse and carriages tours, canal tours etc? Want romantic/relaxing/good food and beer and not outrageously expensive.

I went to Brussels for the day once, 8am Eurostar there, 7pm back. Was bored off my **** by about half three so if you're looking for somewhere quieter, you'll do well there.

Copenhagen is a good short break place and just looking, you can go in may (don't know when you're planning) for three nights from £170 each.
Doesn't have the train trip but a cool place.

I had a 2 day training course in Antwerp last year and thoroughly enjoyed the whole place.
I was thinking about driving back and taking the missus next year for a 3 or 4 day break.
The beer is fantastic, my favourite was Bien Venu sur le site de la brasserie Huyghe

Bruges is a beautiful city, way nicer than Brussels if you're after a short break.
I've been there twice over the last few years, 3 days is probably spot on because you'll run out of stuff to do if you're there any longer

Brussels is ****. You've got a nice square (all around which are expensive tourist trap restaurants) and... that's about it. It's a swarthy, dirty, soulless city imo.
And the signs saying "Welcome to the Capital of Europe" really got on my ****.
Haven't been to Bruges but have heard it's nice, although maybe it's 'more for your mum & dad?

Why on earth would anyone want to go to Brussels or Bruges? Two of the most boring places in Europe! Surely for a honeymoon you could be a bit more romantic and have a look around Europe for somewhere quiet but a bit more interesting than those two locations. There was a reason Monty Python referred to them as "miserable, boring, Belgian *******s!"

Bob, Bruges was a fantastic place to visit, although the Leffe was expensive!!
I would strongly recommend it for a peaceful visit and just soak in the atmosphere!!!
there are plenty of links on the web to see what it is like, but i thought it was great, but 2 days would be adequate.
You can use a horse & cart taxi, for something a bit diffent or take a boat trip on the waterways there.
Brussels i have been relaiably informed is a dump and filthy, with nothing worth seeing !
whatever you choose, have a great time mate

I've been to Brussels many times.
Only thing I can remember about it is that there is a junction on the main road from the airport with far too many signs on it

Thanks for the replies and just to point out that we haven't made it definite that is where we are going but it was somewhere we were looking at because of how close it is with the Eurostar etc. Seems some hate it and some love it.
I've been to Brussels before but it was on a work jolly and was drunk before I even got there so can't remember anything about the place. Know people who have been to Bruges though and say it is a lovely place which is why we considered it.
Dazza cheers mate and yes was looking at boat/canal trips and the horse and carriage rides on Google. Just want a couple of relaxing days really.

Me and the Mrs went to Brussells and it was crap. Biggest waste of time ever.
I have spoken to other people who said they had a good time but from my personal experience I wouldn't rush to go there again. As for Bruges I've never been but it looks nice.

Bruges is beautiful and well worth a visit for anyone but any more that 1 night two days and you may struggle for things to do. Its a nice city to explore on foot with with few interesting cathedrals but three nights equates to 4 days and much as I like the place 4 days there would make you hate it. THe list of things to do there is not massive
1. walk around enjoy the general beauty of the place and a few cathedrals etc
2. Go for a horse and cart ride if thats your thing
3. Visit the chocolate museum
4. Go on a trip to flanders Field see some war stuff visit a castle or two etc.
5 A night at the enlgish theatre
Its not that cheap for hotels though and thee are good places to eat but the places on the main square are touristy and over priced.
Also the euro star does not stop there its actually alot easier to go through the tunnel and drive on an hour or so from calais.

We're driving to Amsterdam for a four days next month then stopping for three days in Bruges on the way back - we're in south London so its only an hours run to the Shuttle from here and about 240 miles to Amsterdam most of which is motorway - no doubt get there far quicker than going to the west country and with far less potholes. Never been to either before so can't offer any advise at this stage although they look very similar, Bruges perhaps being the more picturesque? Got a better deal on the Bruges hotel and parking was way cheaper.
Did Brussels on Eurostar last year, not a great deal there outside of the main square and city centre - great art gallery though - thankfully the weather stayed dry so we did a lot of walking about - 3 days would do it, though what you'd do if it was wet I don't know. . . . but hey, its your honeymoon

Bruges is a great place to visit for a couple of days. Went there for my honeymoon seven years ago and enjoyed it . You must visit Ypes and the battlefields, very moving.

Bruge is lovely but i wouldnt want to stay longer then a day as there isnt a lot to do and isnt a big place.
The restaurants are great (waffles with chocolate sauce mmmm)
Nice shops although most are expnsive/designer. Loads of chocolate shops, museums and nice sights.
The canal boat ride is great and lasts for about half an hour.
I went on the ferry so had a night on the ship, day in Bruges, then another night on the ship before docking back in at Hull.

Well we went to Bruges for 2 nights for our honeymoon and had a fantastic time. Most relaxed i've been in a very long time after a whirlwind wedding day, great food, great architecture and was very lucky with the weather. Did the canal ride, the horse and carriage, lots of chocolate shops, lots of Belgian beer and the best Indian meal in a restaurant on one of the squares off the main square i've ever had (and the most expensive).
2 nights was just right as suggested, and yes Brussels is a **** hole as went round it on our way home and very glad we didn't stay there. Thanks for all the replies.

Decent enough shopping, plenty of good places to eat.
Having said that I was only there for a few days at a time and I was mixing up the touristy stuff with seeing my then girlfriend.
