Default Will Branson save Honda F1

I would be surprised (if he does he will get it V V cheap)

I think the conversation will go something like this

“Hi, I hear your trying to get rid of your formula 1 team”

“Yes, it’s on sale for approx £200 million”

“Oh Ok I was going to offer you £40 million”

“You must be joking”

“No – I would also like you too take a reputational and financial hit by sacking 75% of the workforce before we take over”

Old Beardy can then run the F1 outfit on a shoestring liveried up with Virgin for a couple of seasons saving loads on money on marketing – cheap way of flogging his Virgin brand

And when the deal falls thru, which it will – see above, he will denounce F1 as “delusional”

can of Virgin Cola anyone?

Its complete rubbish.

He has no intention of buying Honda. He did exactly the same thing with Northern Rock. A couple of weeks of Virgin this Virgin that. Cheap advertising and nothing more.

Isn't today supposed to be the deadline for Honda advising Mercedes of the buyer so that the engines will definately be supplied.

I really liked Virgin Cola!

In fact, you can buy the Honda F1 team for less than a 2L Bottle of the stuff!

Yes indeed, so as far as this season is concerned they wont be around which is a shame.

For someone that's full of horse sh*t as you put it, i wouldn't mind being a quid behind him in the cash stakes

A. Branson did want Concorde. And offered several million for each of them, even though BA got them for a nominal cost from HMG.
B. BA refused to sell them.
C. Airbus stated they'd not make spares, not matter who owned them. That was the final nail in the coffin for Concorde.

IMO, he only wanted to buy them, so he could paint them red, run them for a week or two and then park them up as BA had to do. Cheap publicity and nothing more.

Yeah that's probably right.

He was going to buy them for xx million, TUPE across the pilots, FO's, flight engineers, cabin crew, maintenance teams and get Airbus to commit to building and stocking spares, then obtain airworthiness certs from the CAA, and then fly them for 14 days.

Yeah, you're probably right.

It's laughable really, i'd have dearly loved to see them contiue flying but Bransons offer of £5 million for 5 aircraft was merely a PR stunt ,he had no interest in making a commercial go of Concorde and would no doubt just have painted them in Virgin colours before dreaming up excuse after excuse as to why they couldn't fly.

I'm slightly biased here as I work for BA but i'd guess they didn't pass them on because they didn't have to and it wouldn't have made good commercial sense.
I could think of nothing worse than passing on your retired flagship to one of your smaller competitors who have been nothing but critical of you.

Maybe BA should have sold them on for what they bought them with the proviso that Virgin would have to operate them for at least 5 years commercially.

Saves job so could be a good thing but somehow I doubt Honda would see themselves siding with Virgin

Reports elsewhere are suggesting that anyone could buy the F1 team for just £1.

As for the cost of running it, I'd think a bare minimum of £80m would be essential.

Good to see a refreshingly cynical (read 'realistic') attitude to Branson. He's always at the ready to get some free publicity, always trying to look like the 'saviour' when he knows nothing will come of it. A1 Bull****ter.
