U2 - No Line On The Horizon
Have a "preview" of this and have to say that the first four tracks are good then it rapidly goes downhill.
Have they lost it?
After How To Dismantle... I thought the only way for them was up...this goes up and then falls flat. First listens to it were good but on second and subsequent listens it isn't special after all...
Anyone else heard it?

I picked out 5 songs that which (just about) stand up to repeated listens but that's only half the album so for that reason and that reason alone, I'm out!

Have to say that half the album sounds like a slightly weaker distilled version of classic U2, but the other half is a wonderful change in direction. Cedars Of Lebanon and Moment of Surrender are two of their best tracks for a very long time.
Of course they will get lambasted for being past their sell by date etc. etc. but that is just the way a lot of people are with any popular mainstream band. Let's not forget these guys recorded three of the finest albums in the history of popular music and anything after that was always going to seem a little luke warm, but try enjoying this album for what it is rather than judging it by their past releases and you will find it stands up pretty well.
Also a note on the production front. Plus points are having Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno on board, negatives are having Steve Lillywhite on board - that man could not engineer a good sound if his life depended on it and it is such a shame that much of U2's early work is sonically strangled by Lillywhite's mushy sounding production.
