Importing a car from Japan
Hi all
Currently searching for a 97/98 Celica GT4. Starting to think I might import one as whats currently on offer in the uk is pi55 poor and highly priced.
So, can anyone recommend a good, trusted car importer ?? If I do a search on google, for a car importing, I get tons of sites, 90% I reckon are sh1te.
Who here has imported a car ?
Cheers

Ive been sniff around the various auction sites, and 97/98 cars go for about £5K over in japan. Ok, once here, you're look at around £7K.
I want a facelift, jdm version, in white, low mileage, and standard. Not into modified ones as you never know whats been done, or that you might be 100 miles away from a HG / blown turbo due to sky high psi boosts.

Ive imported scores, but I cant really help, as I was the importer. Id say wait: the exchange rate is not around ¥140 : £1, down from closer to ¥240 : £1 a year ago. This makes everything very expensive, which is compounded by duty and VAT charges, and the Japanese car market tends not to be affected by lessening demand from Britain, so auctions values wont have dropped as a result.

Well, find a decent guy from the supra forum. Spoke to him over the phone and already he's found a lovely looking black GT4, 50K miles, 98'.
His details are :- JM-Imports - High Performance Cars Direct From Japan
Email :- info@jm-imports.co.uk
Chap is called Jurgen. He's imported over 60 supras now, and the supra guys rate him highly.
Now, do I give him a desposit and get this GT4 ?

Spoken to a few importers recently and agree with the above. The price of the yen is not the best and you get a double whack as shipping is in dollars which the pound doesn't fare too well against at the moment.
Best off waiting if you can or get one that's already imported.
