Looking for a holiday to Greece where should i go ?
We are looking to go to Greece this summer and both don't have a clue where to go. I have been many times in my youth to places like kavos & malia but now i want to stay as far as away as possible from all the drunk idiots.
We are both 25 and are looking to stay somewhere which is close to the beach with nice hotels. We would also like some nice places to eat and a few disco/bars if we faniced the odd night out.
I got some catalogues from thomas cook yesterday but they didnt help at all there are about 10 different towns that sounded good.
Where have you lot been and were would you recommend.
We dont want to spend a bomb either lol
thanks

Kos Town on Kos could be a good option. There's a lot of culture for there (Roman ruins etc), and it's easy to get over to Turkey for a day-trip as well.
There's still quite a few late bars, and plenty of places to eat.
Far less chavvy than Kardamena on the other side of the island!
Some of the smaller islands like Spetsis are nice, but you get bored pretty quickly as there's only so much to do and see.

Kefalonia. Lassi is a good base being close to the capital Agostoli and in the middle of the west coast for easy access north to Myrtos (although I think Agios Giordos at Lassi is a nicer beach), Assos and Fiskardo. A short ferry ride or drive into the Luxor Peninsula, or head south through the mountains for Skala and Pouros. Whilst there visit the Melissani Lake, Drogarati Caves and the Monastary (for the wine )....
We visited Sidari in Corfu whilst there and found it a bit tatty and aimed at the English Paleokastritsa (sp?) in the NW is lovely though.

Good reccomendations from Corrado Boy there. Kefalonia is totally un-chavvy/boozy.
Recently we went to Karpathos (near Rhodes) which was great and undiscovered by most. Last minute 7 day hol to Faliraki and flight over to Karpathos the next day was the cheapest way.
Lindos on Rhodes is v picturesque, but if you find it too busy go to nearby Symi island.
I've been to over 25 Greek islands, and, in general, the less you have heard about it the better! Last time we went to Karystons on Euboia - SO easy to drive to from Athens airport.
Kalos taxidi!

Kefalonia +1
Lassi is a nice little resort with 2 great beaches and a street of tavernas, the main town is a couple of minutes in a taxi, so if you want a bit more night life just head there.
You can even do a (long) day trip to Olympia which is well worth doing.

Kefalonia + 2 - we stayed in Assos in a villa which was really nice, but it's quiet ( we have small kids) which won't suit everyone. Northern end of the island much nicer than southern end.
Lefkas last year. dramatic island but a lot poorer than kefalonia.
Ithaca nice but small and quiet
Chania end of Crete is my sort of place too

Ohh and sod b snowboarding too Both a PITA LOL Enough to ruin a good holiday!!!

stallis in crete been there for 4 years now, just booked again for july, love it there not to over the top with bars but enough to do for 2weeks holiday, and loads of places to eat. almost all the hotels/apps are minutes away from the beach and if you want a lively night then Mallia is a 5 min taxi ride.

15 mins walk from the town, lovely little restaurant 5 mins walk. Family run appartments, 20 or so of them.

I've backpacked around the Greek Islands twice and much preferred it to the only time I went on a package deal to Corfu. In my experience stick to the islands with no airport for the ultimate in solitude. Catching ferries is easy and there are always plenty of locals who turn up to meet the ferry as it docks offering rooms to rent.
Most of my backpacking has been around the Dodecanese and it's surprising how different one island is to the next, each island really does seem to have its own character. I really love Greece but hate the way some places have been completely ruined by drunk, English tourists and ugly hotels.
Whilst you're there pop into a Greek patisserie, they do the best pastries and cakes ever Yum Yum

Sal, like the idea of backpacking round Greece, not the usual places many people go to
