We've been in our rented house for just over a year and noticed mould on the ceiling where the ceiling and wall meets. It looks black on the wall and very not nice to look at.
Is it the landlords legal responsability to sort this? We've tried mould cleaner but no joy

I would have thought it was the landlord's responsibility be careful trying to clean it,mould can have tiny little spores which when rubbed release into the air and if ingested aren't very nice on the chest especially if asthmatic, call him in now.

Not very nice stuff and yes it would be up to landlord.
Basically you need decent air circulation in the room with some heating if possible.
You can get stuff to paint over but it will come back every time. There may be an underlying cause such as a damp roof/wall?
If you have young kids then keep them out of the room. dl

speaking as a (not the) landlord, I would see it as my responsibility, unless it was an obvious case of neglect by the tenant i.e. letting the shower continually squirt over the floor etc
even then for a first offence I would prob do it --- its my property after all

I have just today had the exact same problem in one of my flats, the tenant wishes to sort it himself though. ![Cool](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/cool.gif)
However I would have sorted no problem if he didn't, there is no question in my eyes that it's the landlords responsibility, unless as someone above says it's due to tenant neglect.

A friend of mine recently was renting a property where she ended up with a serious problem with mould. It ended up quickly getting into cupboards and the drawers in her bed, as well as over the walls. Basically the landlord wanted nothing to do with it, only telling her she should have been keeping the windows open (in the middle of winter). She quite promptly left that place, partly due to this as well as other issues.
Tbh, unless in a bathroom, I would think there would be an underlying cause for mould, peoples' neglect aside, but I know very little on the subject myself. The only place we seem to have any issue, is in the bathroom, and I am gearing up for sending an e-mail to the sealant company about that.
