What Would You Cut?

What Would You Cut?
To get the economy back into balance?
Schools?
Hospitals?
Nuclear Power Stations?
Defence?
Pensions?
What about pay in the Public Sector?
OR would you raise taxes?
Car Taxes UP?
Petrol Taxes UP?
High Earners Squeezed?
----------------------------
Personally, I would attack the benefits system - there must be £billions paid there which could be saved?

MPS remuneration package.
Immediatley knock the final salary pension schemes for public sector workers on the head and let them have defined benefit schemes.

Scarp NI and raise income tax to compensate. Simplify the system.
Tighten up the benefit system. Spend the money on re-educating the sink estate teenagers to not see kids as a free lunch.
Drop all these stupid incentives that hit headlines and do nothing but waste money.
Make the Cash ISA increase for all ages not just over 50s.
I would have made all the heads of banks tell me exactly how bad each bank was before any money was handed over and the threat of criminal proceedings of negligence.
Rebuild the financial services authority and give it more teeth against the banks so they get off the backs of small IFA firms trying to do their best.
Create an independant body to make sure the government in power doesn't get too close to industry.
Consider national service to improve the discipline of the national with the promise of lower rates for mortgages and loans for those that do minimum 3 years.
Tighten up the ability to obtain credit - increase criterea.
Don't waste money on plugs sockets for electric cars and offer a tender to car manufacturers to come up with hydrogen cell cars - government gets slice of the profits if they invent the car of the future - government becomes richest in world within a year.

It's a real shame, and I mean that. All the imperfect but genuine public service improvements are about to unravel..big time, cuts have to be made.
I blame the government inability to push through genuine public sector reform, basically they bottled it when they had the chance.
It's time to turn the page, let Mr Cameron have a go

Reduce pay in public sectors, especially final pensions, shake up civil service, reduce red tape / wasted money in local government, make local government department effectively work as a business. Get rid of the someone else will pay mentality - that seems to prevalent in government department.
NHS treatment to UK citizens only, 5 years only dole payments - make people aware its not a career choice.
Do like the idea of national service !
Freeze tax on fuel, reduce / abolish tax on heating / electricity, increase tax on cigs and booze
