For the last few hours i have had a thin sharp pain, not constant, in my right ear. The stab only lasts a second but now it feels like it is pulsing and every 5 seconds.
I haven't had an ear ache for years and am dreading it
I have no other symptoms but i would rather bang my head on a cupboard than have pain in the ear. What is the best thing for ear ache as its too late for the doctors now?

How about NHS Direct or your local chemist?
I was hoping to find out on here what really works, tried and tested
I have taken Ibuprofen but i can feel the pain poking through and getting slowly worse

I've just tried some dave's insanity sauce neat so yes i know how you feel.
As for you ears, two asprin is about all you can do, sounds like you may have an infection going on, id phone up nhs direct or see your gp.

As i said you may have an inner ear infection, the gp will have to have a nose unless you have some kind of after hours doctor service like we down here have, they can sometimes throw a few tabs your way just to tide you over until you get a proper visit.
Are you having any dizzy spells?
If you've had a cold recently a blockage in the piping could be the cause some sudafed might help.

I have been to A&E today, i have torn the Flexor Tendon under my big toe so that i cant move the toe anymore. I kicked my bottom stair by accident over the weekend. I have no idea what they are going to suggest but i bet its an operation
I would choose the toe and your knee over earache any day

It could be that there is some congestion and it might help a bit.Apart from that, your best bet is the Ibuprofen, but now you've taken Aspirin and Codeine, I wouldn't want you to OD!

The suggestion of a hot drink of water and hold your nose when swallowing is a good one. This forces the fluid up the eustachian tube ( Eustachian tube - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) which can help drain the middle ear.
If the pain is being caused by pressure this will really help.
You can hold your nose closed and blow as well, but I wouldn't recommend it as this will potentially push crap INTO the ear and make it worse!

Vitamin C Diet
Most commonly earache is a result of an ear infection. Take Vitamin C to boost your immune system. It is a natural antibiotic and antihistamine that helps to reduce inflammation and fever. Include zinc in your diet because it reduces ear infection. Certain foods, more commonly dairy products like milk, butter, cheese etc tend to aggravate ear infections, so it is better to avoid them during an ear infection.

I will match you with my painful elbow and raise you with my dodgy back
As i expected it got worse but the painkillers did kick in. I am still alive so i might take the same combination again in a bit
The good thing to come out of this is that i didn't get ill from the codeine. It has always made me more ill than i was to start with.
I will still go to the doctor tomorrow.
