Its not really a fun thing to look at, its a big impact on F1, you may find that a loss of about 30% of the people who go to watch F1 will probably ruin the sport, read up before you jump in some nice bits here BBC - Homepage

I do agree with the cap. With enough money you can effectively buy wins. It should be a drivers championship as well as a manufacturers championship and each manufacturer should have an equal chance when it comes to funds. A cap might help make it more of a drivers championship too.
The sport has been boring over the last few years IMO.
This year has been good but still not a drivers championship.
For the record I wont miss Ferrari. Only cos i was never a Schumacher fan, he was a cheat.

Ferrari have always been in motorsport and IIRC I think old Enzo siad that they will always continue in motorsport is some form or another. So let them leave, it would be good to see them in the WRC or touring cars!

rafpmsl, thast quality and so true
funny to see who the ferrari supporters are on here.
f1's boring anyway now, it used to be the pinicle of technology and engineering, now its all about who can design a better front and rear wing that will make no diffrence to a road car ever. It used to be about devloping tech for the road, traction control, abs, active suspension etc etc, f1 fell flat on its **** ages ago.
also its the reason for the super high cost, remove the rules about the car and it'll be faster, more exciting to watch, not to mention if they hadn't introduce certain rules some dead drivers would still be alive, senna anyone?

I don't understand all you people who are saying its become boring when the last few seasons have produced some of the closest finishes to a championship in history?! And right now it's as good as it's ever been with the gap between first and last on the grid being < 2 seconds.
Toyota threatening to pull out, not a big deal really, they're relative newcomers to the sport and I'm not sure anyone would really miss them, Ferrari on the other hand is a different story.

The problem with F1 as I see it is, the cars require downforce to go round corners fast, you don't get downforce when you are right behind someone, so you can't get right up behind someone out of a corner onto a straight, therefore you can't overtake before the end of that straight.
It just makes for naturally boring racing, teams just wait till thenext pit stop to try to make up places.

What the sport needs is a new inovative 'medal' type scoring system...
Seriously though, I think the 3rd part of qualifing should be revised. Perhaps keep the 'run with your race fuel' idea but allow the guy who gets pole to win the ability to put in as much fuel as he wants for the race. That way the big boys might gamble and go light to get pole, but the ones that don't get it will effectively have to pit really early in the race thus giving the lesser cars more of a chance.

Ok, racing in F1 isn't as exciting as in say a 1/4 mile drag in Fast and Furious, but this years car design, big front wing, KERS, slick tyres and rear defuser and smaller rear spoiler has IMO improved things. We're seeing more overtakes, sliptreaming and were no longer watching a Ferrari/Maclaren procession.

The changes made for this year have had a good impact. Following cars can now get to within a second of the car in front instead of 2 seconds. This makes it easier for them to overtake, so we are seeing more on track action. Needs to go further though imo.
Not sure on a budget cap. How are they really going to enforce it? How can they stop an F1 team testing 20 designs for front wings within a different company to get preliminary results, then taking that research back within the real F1 budget capped team. It will be a nightmare to police, as some of the F1 teams are massive companies with sooooo many other divisions around the world that can perform "illegal" work if they want to cheat.....and lets face it, sometimes teams do just that - cheat

Really don't see the point to this thread. It may have had some relevance last September, but what's the point of it now. As others have said, it was Toyota and Redbull that threatened to quit way before Ferrari. Everyone is just getting sick of Max Mosley who is now so out of touch with the sport and what the fans want.

From a Ferrari press release:
The Board of Directors also examined developments related to recent decisions taken by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile during an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on 29 April 2009. Although this meeting was originally called only to examine a disciplinary matter, the decisions taken mean that, for the first time ever in Formula One, the 2010 season will see the introduction of two different sets of regulations based on arbitrary technical rules and economic parameters.
The Board considers that if this is the regulatory framework for Formula One in the future, then the reasons underlying Ferrari’s uninterrupted participation in the World Championship over the last 60 years - the only constructor to have taken part ever since its inception in 1950 - would come to a close.
The Board also expressed its disappointment about the methods adopted by the FIA in taking decisions of such a serious nature and its refusal to effectively reach an understanding with constructors and teams. The rules of governance that have contributed to the development of Formula One over the last 25 years have been disregarded, as have the binding contractual obligations between Ferrari and the FIA itself regarding the stability of the regulations. The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA’s endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula One are the priorities for the future. If these indispensable principles are not respected and if the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next Formula One World Championship.
My translation is:
We're going to shout and scream and scream and scream, and throw all of our toys out of our pram until the FIA changes things to OUR desires, sod what anyone else wants. If the FIA does not this we'll not be part of the next F1 championship and the whole thing will just collapse without us present as we're the best team there and without Ferrari, F1 is nothing at all

Money for any one is not limitless, so there is a cap no one has unlimited funds, Fiat seem to be spending money they certainly dont have. Having bought Chrysler and looking at Vauxhall and Opel.

Completely agree. If you can't afford it, don't bother wasting people's time. F1 IS expensive. May be a fairer spread of the pot should be sorted out, so that all teams receive say, £10 million a year. The rest is then given on the number of points scored.
