Default Who likes US style fridge freezers ?

My old Miele Fridge freezer gave up the ghost a few months back...

(okay I must confess it didnt just break. In a fit of anger at the other half's reluctance to find any food in the freezer, I unleashed my manly defrosting technique at the effing compartment to illustrate to her that there were foodstuffs in the piggin freezer Unfortunately in my haste to show her, my technique of using a large kitchen knife and screwdriver was met by a hissing sound and I was rewarded with a face full of toxic coolant gas )

Anyway insurance have paid up and so was just going to have this little beauty delivered

Buy SAMSUNG RSH1DTMH | 19.1 cu.ft gross capacity silver usa fridge freezer - Specification | Comet

Now we cant get it plumbed it just yet for the cold water supply as the fridge will be on the other side of the kitchen away from the cold supply but I guess that can be solved ?

Just wondering what people think of these style fridges or are they just a fad ?

If they are a fad, then they have been for a long time Mine's 7 years old now and I still wouldn't do without it.

If you can find a version with the Milk 'flap' so you don't have to repeatedly open the door it's remarkably handy....

Freezer is on the small side with all of them.

The above is the one we have in France, in the barn-conversion.
Wife loves it, the flap to get bottles out without opening the door is very good, as are the ice and water dispensers, although I nearly jumped out of my skin the first time it made ice and tipped it into storage. I was in the other side of the barn, it's VERY quiet in the countryside, and I thought I'd got an animal in with me

Wife now wants one in the UK, but at the mo there isn't space..what a shame

I love mine and would not be without it now.
Decided to get one without water/ice dispenser to allow for a bigger freezer (human body sized was a must)

USA all the way, they got something right!

Luckily I didnt have one of those to hand or else it would have been used, welders mask and all

Milk flap eh ? Sounds a bit

Our only concern is the cold water supply. I have heard that you either need to be right next to the cold water supply (fridge is on the other side of the kithen ) or run a new hose from the supply maybe underneath the floor. May need to google some DIY experts for that job ??

Planning on getting one when we have our new kitchen built. Think that having filtered cold water and ice on tap will be great Will make sure they put in a cold water feed for it when the building work goes ahead.

Have heard that the freezers can be a bit on the small side but we have a big chest freezer out in the garage so will probably only keep everyday stuff indoors.

Probably go a for a premium brand (i.e. not Samsung) in the hopes of good reliability

Unfortunately the budget was not there to afford some of the premium brands though I did look at some of the £3-4000 ones wishfully and think..if only

It's just the standard screw fit used by washing machines et al... with some narrow bore pipe for the supply ...Wherever you mount the filter canister, remember you'll have to get in & change it at some point

You dont like them? They harm the planet? Or are a complete over kill for a domestic appliance?

Either way I love our one. Only 3 people in our house, but it is perfect

we have a black whirlpool. considerably cheaper than the rest of the market when we bought it but no compromise in quality/efficiency. had it now for 4 yrs and no probs so far. water and ice dispenser though is a must especially for the summer and drinks at weekend.

Nat, you really must change your choice of slippers, before you criticize Swiss's choice of fridge

Swiss: if yours is on the opposite side to the water supply, can you get up the wall, through the ceiling and down the other side, in 10mm copper, say?

You might even be able to bury it in the plaster, but do wrap it or use plastic if that's the case.

Have had a Black gloss Samsung for about 4 years now without problem .

Ice maker at this time of year is great .

Need to replace internal water filter 6 monthly but I only changed it after 2 yrs or so .(about £40 each ).

Think I paid £1500 ish but they have come down in price a lot now .

I always find Comet's website helpful for cutting down the options.

Oh and GE is a great brand for such items. IMO

That may be an option but since I have no idea how to do plumbing I think I may need to get someone in who knows what they are talking about

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on whose paying for it and who you ask in our house) we haven't the room for a big US fridge.

I had to bribe the wife with new kitchen tools when I decided to get another scooby. I bought a silver Samsung fridge. Its very good and does for the three of us quite well.

Also looks like a giant mobile phone

didn't somoeone have a thread on here about how much electriciy he was using, and attributed the increase to his new US Style fridge?

Aint got one, if my fridge was the size of a 40ft trailer my wife would still insist on having it jammed full.
