Kids terrified of global warming
not wanting a predictable global warming debate, but I thought this was interesting. the media just don't seem to care what effects they have on people - especially kids.
what sort of society do we live in, when kids are being brainwashed into thinking the world will end before they grow up?

I see this week it's all about the effects of flooding and the amount we need to spend (billions) to counter the effect of 'rising sea levels, and 'increased storm activity'. And it must be true 'cos the guy on Radio 4 said that all the models are 'predicting' this so the evidence is 'incontrovertible' (which actually means "Impossible to dispute; unquestionable"). No wonder the kids are scared.
My lad is just at the end of his reception year and still thinks that teachers know more than mummy and daddy. Just wait until they try to instil some GW cr&p into him. I'll be teaching the 'scientific method' to him at the same time ...

In my mind it was much the same through the 70s and 80s albeit with the constant threat of nuclear war between NATO and the USSR.
It still doesn't make it right and the media really should be a little more responsible with their reporting rather than trying to make a fast buck by selling bad news.

The world (as we know it) is probably at more threat from the like of North Korea (or North Yorkshire, asa reported on Sky News!) than climate change, but why burden kids with that sort of worry? Why work hard at school if you've only going to be blown up or drowned before you leave?

It's not just the media, it's schools too. Kids are brainwashed from an early age so they will unconsciously accept the slew of environmental based taxes they'll be paying when they grow up.

I know I'll have to face this at some point with my kids. I think the way I'll tackle it will be to explain that if they work hard, get their grades then they might just be the ones that make the difference...

It really is not surprising that they are worried about GBW with all the publicity etc. It will feel like a big future problem that they are powerless to prevent.
I also remember the fear about a nuclear war starting up, especially the confrontation over Cuba and the Soviet missiles! I just felt unfair at the time that our elders could dump us into the war which would end the world!
