Advertising Standards Authority.........
.............toothless, or in someone's pocket?
I've tried 3 times with them, now: I complained about an advert for Persil showing kids in school rushing to put their hands up in class, with the voiceover, "if you want YOUR kids to be brighter, wash their clothes in Persil". They turned it down, it was, apparently, just a play on words.
Later, I complained about a mobile phone operator advertising, in big letters, UNLIMITED CALLS AND TEXTS. In the small print, there WAS a limit. Apparently, THAT'S OK too
Recently, I've got sick of Citroen advertising their cars loudly proclaiming "From seven-nine-nine-five, when in samll print at the bottom of the screen, you can just make out, (if you have good eyes and read quickly), that the vehicle shown is ACTUALLY £14,995
Apparently THAT'S OK too.
So, what is the point of the ASA if they just uphold any sharp practice?
