Default eBay fees - WTF!

I've just sold an item on eBay. A cheap Bilstein shock absorber sticker - £1.50 & 50p P&P.

eBay fees: £0.55
Paypal fees: £0.27
Stamp & envelope: £0.50 (ish)
Total costs: £1.32

Sale price: £2.00
Fees: £1.32
What's left:
£0.68

Less the initial item cost & time.

Please discuss.

Thanks

They have a monopoly and are squeezing ppl for all they can get. Until ppl stop using them, then they will keep taking more.

What we really need is another site that can offer some competition. Currently there is none so they can get away with this. Just be thankful that you could charge P&P, in most categories you cannot do this anymore

Agreed.

I've been on there a while but not sold much.

I really am at a loss as to their charges for low value items.

I can live with being bummed by PayPal, but not both at the same time.

Madness!

going to have to look at eBid. I have a fair few things I am going to sell in the next couple of weeks. Ranging from computers, to bikes and central heating controllers and shoes. Nothing like a proper clear out

Just to save me reading up about it, whats the catch with eBid. It says there are no fees, no listing fees, no final value fees. Then, on the first page there is a special offer where you pay £50 to not have fees for life No fees means no fees? Or did I miss something.

Nope £50 up front and you can sell for free for life bar any paypal etc fees of course, but personally i would use google checkout to double whammy ebay.

Im really starting to see ebid as a good replacement, it's rapidly growing in numbers of auctions.

So eBid charges nothing now, but may do so in the future. That £50 means that you never have to pay anything in the future if they do make it big and start charging other ppl? May be worth it, as ppl are really starting to hate eBay.

Did hear there were security issues with it, but let's be honest, paypal and ebay hardly provide protection these days.
Definatly gonna give it a try.

Final Value Fee of 3% (sellers) if you don't pay the £49.99 lifetime membership.

It amazes me that no one at ebay has figured out that if they did flat fee 3 or 5% on final sale price, maybe 2% paypal, and gave a sh't about the scammers, they would absolutely clean up. Millions of lower price items would appear and no one would go anywhere else.
The have the brand, the name, the infrastructure but are losing the goodwill with their greed.
I once worked for a guy in retail and his whole ethos was that it's better to make a pound each on a hundred units than 40 pound each on two. He did more work shifting stuff but a lot less effort in sales.
