Default Best place to live

Where is the best place UK wise to live. Thinking travel time to work (major work area not your work), house prices, facilities, pace of life etc.

I'm thinking Oxfordshire, commutable to London, reasonably priced, countryside, central etc.

Maybe Cheshire in the North?

What are people's thoughts?

From the point of view of just being a lovely part of the country and far less chance of being robbed or mugged, the West Country is hard to beat.

What restrictions do you have? Do you need to get to London regularly? Have you got kids at school? Etc.

Ooops - got the point of the thread wrong!

If you need to be in London often: North Downs area of Surrey or Oxfordshire
If you need to be central: Bristol
If you have no real geographical ties: West Country
If you love mountains and the sea: South Wales
If you love mountains and wilderness: The Highlands

Where abouts do you stay? In the city?

Sometimes I would love to stay in Glasgow. They both have their pros and cons.

DD - holiday or living? Not that many people know the place.

Personally, I think your choices and reasons behind your answers will depend on your age and social status.

I'm happy where I am in Hertford - its a lively little town with plenty to do, restaurants, bars etc.

Loads of golf courses for me to enjoy at the weekends. London is only 40 minutes away when needed.

Super happy where I live, We are 45 minutes away from waterloo by train, 30 minutes away from West london (chiswick etc)
45 minutes away from the coast, witterings, pompy and the solent.

Everything you could need if you like city living and 2 minutes down the road we have the North downs.
If you are a city worker or need to work in town then Surrey is a great place to be, If you want more than a studio apartment for your £200k its not so great.

Holidays - Cornwall 12 years on the trot. Parents loved it. I was very much younger then, but have very fond memories of the whole area

ps - edit for accuracy

I would think most could post pics of "near" where they live and make it look nice.
