Default Garage flooring ideas?

Hi, I'm moving soon, and would like to have a nice floor in my new garage. I would love to fit rubber floor tiles, but they're so expensive! Has anyone done the same? What cost? Any other ideas?
I've thought about paint, but using jacks etc would damage it quickly.
The garage is 17"x14"

Thanks,Mit

Be wary of tiles or plastic mesh flooring, they are great for a workshop, but when you have to put your wet car away or if its covered in snow then the water makes hell of a mess, but thats only my experience. Just buy concrete sealant to seal the floor, then if you have a work area try tiles in that bit.

Commercial carpet tiles? Get them off fleabay dead cheap and glue down. They will get a little muddy/dirty where the wheels are. Maybe you could use a different colour on the wheel tracks and replace.

I had this in one garage and its damn comfy to walk about on and work. Also my garage is my hideaway from mrs chop so spend a lot of time in there

Should have added that the wet can be an issue. I keep car outside most of time so only moved it in etc when it wasn't soaking wet.

Thanks for the input, my car lives in the garage. I imagine carpet getting metal filings etc getting stuck in the fibres(i have a rug at one end in my current garage, and it's done the same.
I've seen these: Garage Floor Tiles, Coverings & Tiles
Works out £600 with underlay etc.
Would water be a real pain?

I went through the same dilemma 2 years ago, do I paint the concrete floor or not. The main problem I had was dust.
Looked at the tiles issues but ended up getting some cheap off cuts of vinyl floor. Swept the bare concrete and laid it down !
Two year later it has the dints where I have jacked on them (but not cut through) and marks where the hot tyres have sat on it. Dead easy to brush the dirt off and occasionally I clean it with a hose pipe and brush. Should easily last another two years before it needs replacing – best £30 I spent

You just missed a Bulk Buy on another forum with a great discount.

FWIW the supplier is in Farnworth (Farneearth for locals ) whcih is near Bolton. They do "seconds" which work out decent VFM IIRC.

I painted the concrete with heavy duty flooring paint, wears well aslong as you prep it correctly.
I had a large old rug down for a time but that went mouldy!

I used carpet tiles first time around but carpet/carpet tiles stink when they have been wet and dried a few times, they also expand and stain, basically look and smell ****.

The bonding they supplied was also rubbish and the tiles lifted.

I also looked at rubber tiles, and rubber gym mats, but after the carpet tile mistake I went for simple sealed concrete.

Easy to manage, does the job and all stains can easily be wiped up.

Limmer (not sure of spelling ).
Rubbery coating used inside the house sometimes to prevent damp coming through floors .Poured hot ,tar type substance ,which sets hard .
Did my garage floor 6 x 5 metres ,1 inch thick ,lasts for ever .£600 quid .
Any water off car is just brushed off .

My garage floor was crumbly concrete prior to doing it .

Looks good too now .

Two solutions:

1. Fit these, expensive but you can take them up if you leave.

Heavy-duty PVC floor tiles protect & transform your garage floor - Dura Garages

2. Paint, you will need to clean and degrease floor first with an acid solution ( you should be able to get this from a builders merchant ) then apply epoxy floor paint. I did my garage floor with this ( got the paint from a plastics and resins company ) and its proved very hardwearing for a number of years.

Yes, this is a bituminous material that is used in houses with solid concrete floors. This is by far the best solution, and as you say, will last forever.

U could be different and try artificial grass, Unreal Lawns Limited. (think there website is down for maintenance).

I have had my garden done by them and when my garage is built i will be having it on the floor too but with a rubber underlay.

Mte, unless you are doing actual engineering, filing, milling and drilling a car doesnt actually generate any metal filings unless its very poorly and then it tends to conveniently cover them in oil.

I just tend to nick a bit of carpet for the garage when we change one, when it gets mingin I take it to the tip, nothing better when working on your car to be lying on a quality axminster.

I'm known to make the odd thing or two, hence why mine has some embedded in it.
I've also done carbon fibre, painting, cleaning etc, so a carpet, although being lovely new, would get dirty very quickly.

My Dad always fits the old carpet from his house in his garage whenever they get some new stuff. He's even got a garage only hoover now!
I've thought about painting mine but wouldn't that make it slippery when wet?

I've got some of this - Epoxy Shield, Floor Paint, water based epoxy floor paint, garages, car floor paint work shop floor paint - has a fleck in it which gives grip and should last
I've just had a new base laid so need to wait another 2-3 weeks for it to set before i can paint it on
hope it's as good as it looks
