Is the 3GS version worth the price hike over the 3G version??
Just found up my contract's up in 2 days (2g version)... Trying to work out if its worth upgrading to either of the 2, or go for a "normal" phone.

Would depend on what you are paying now compared to a new contract.
And of course if you have any use for any of the updates.
Faster ? 3G ? and all the other changes.
If you are totally happy with what you have dont bother.
The reviews from the 3G to the 3GS show a good improvement in speed, so if you feel your 2G is laggy, the new one will have you smiling.
Guess its needs vs want really

definitely get the 3GS
imagine holding up your iphone and looking at the live image of the road ahead. overlayed on to the live image is street information including nearest tube and distance, street names, etc. as you turn round the information changes for the direction you are now facing.
3G can't do that

Curious about that app mentioned though. Sounds funky, almost like a HUD for a phone.
This one is too far gone to rescue

i can't find where i saw the article - there was a live picture to go with it too!
Basically it's gps + compass + google street view + overlayed info
the 3G doesn't have a compass, so this functionality won't work.

Surely the phone would know what direction its facing or something, even the Nokia GPS has a compass which is pretty accurate.
My Garmin on the phone does similar, but not as a sort of google street view with overlay. Although that said I guess if you are standing on the street, using data to download streetview might be deemed a little pointless. Maybe just use the camera for the image and put the overlay over it ?

YouTube - Nearest Tube Augmented Reality App for iPhone 3GS from acrossair
Looks interesting. Not sure how useful though as surely you would still use maps of sorts to find the nearest route.
Does indicate the future though
