Default tool allowance, who's pocket does it come out of?

chatting to a guy at work today and he says you can get backdated tax allowance on tools for up to 6 years, it's not a massive amount (£28 a year or something like that) so i've never bothered to find out about it, but every penny counts as they say and £160 would be very nice right now

but, does HMRC alone pay the tax/rebate or does my employer get taxed extra for the sum?

only asking as if my boss doesn't have to pay a penny then i'll have a word with the tax office, if it comes back to him though he does me enough favours over time, so i wouldn't bring additional costs on him.

cheers,
Paul

you are allowed to claim £100 per year going back about 7 yrs, you don't see any cash though as it's all done via your tax code.

no hard cash? bugger.

so how do i get the allowance? tax is something i'm not really clued up on i'm afraid, just bend over and get robbed every week so how does it work?

i'm (hopefully) pretty straight forward tax wise Paul, no skeletons in the cupboard. well, there was that moat i needed cleaning and that was on the company expenses but we'll gloss over that
